Sunday started off with a bang in the NCAA tourney. The UCONN Florida matchup was juicy as can be. I didn’t have a horse in this race, other than Florida advancing in my brackets, which they did at the end of the day. Is this scare a good thing for them, or does it prove they are beatable??? Time will tell. The Duke game was a snoozer; I don’t like Duke. I really can’t remember when I ever did. Coach K is from Chicago and all, so… but still, never was a fan, except maybe when Johnny Dawkins was running the point way back when, one of my first ever college basketball memories. I was on Ole Miss again, and they prevailed again. I actually have them going to my Elite Eight, so… guess who I’ll be riding again in the round of 16. Oregon crushed me by a half point vs Arizona in the late game. The game of the day was probably Colorado St vs Maryland; what a game! I had Colo St plus the points; that was a winner. I also took a boosted ML shot at them, which almost hit. I didn’t really mind that it didn’t though. I like this Maryland team and who doesn’t like a buzzer beater??? This is the time of year for those…
I bet against Alabama; it was more of a contrarian play because everybody and their mama was on them vs St. Mary’s. I picked Alabama to win it all in my brackets; I really like that team, but.. thought it would be close. It wasn’t… maybe if St. Mary’s could shoot worth a lick they would have kept it close, but… oh well.
The game I was most disappointed in was the game I couldn’t bet on, thankfully… Illinois sucked ass and lost to Kentucky. They are like an NBA team I swear… always running to the three point line… taking treys when it’s totally unnecessary. My son and I have a saying for that… like that commercial “unnecessary action hero”… we say “unnecessary three point shooter”; plenty of that going on. Am I sold on this Kentucky team that will be playing Tennessee in the sweet 16? They already beat the Vols 2x during the season… I am not. Riding the Vols next round already.
Already locked in Ole Miss and Tennessee for the next round, while I look into the other matchups; we should be in for some excellent games from Thursday to Sunday. No more underdogs hanging around, unless you’re counting Arkansas in that group? I actually had Texas Tech beating St. John’s and heading to the Elite Eight, but now, I’m questioning that pick. Arkansas is getting healthier and more dangerous… I know Calipari laid egg after egg at Kentucky in the tourney, but a change in scenery has done him well. Can I trust his team in this next round? I’m leaning that way.
I think we’ll talk some more college basketball before the games kick off on Thursday; I’ll give all my picks. I took a little hit on Sunday, but still a positive tournament for the DK account thus far. Although I’m sad the first weekend is over, I’m happy there are more games to go; these should be good. Lock in everybody!
