March 22, 2019: Guessing Game

posted in: Bulls | 0

It’s that time of year. Obviously I love my teams, but March Madness is a whole different animal. No matter what else is going on in my life, no matter what else is going on in the sports world, when this time of year rolls around, it’s time to watch college basketball. It’s been a while since I’ve actually watched a good amount during the year, but it doesn’t matter. When it comes to bracket time, it’s a guessing game anyways.

This year my final four consists of Duke, Michigan, NC, and Tennessee. I have Michigan over Tennessee in the final. There’s no way I’d pick Duke. I know NC is MJs school, but don’t really like them either, especially since they took down Illinois that one year. I’ve liked Michigan Bball since the fab five, but when I think of Sean Higgins I still get sick. The Flying Illini were one of my favorite teams of all time. Yeah, so when it comes to Illinois teams in the tourney, it’s slim pickings. Bradley is already out, so we’re done. Now it’s all about my bracket.

11 games right the first day was definitely subpar, although only one sweet 16 team was eliminated. I picked Belmont to win the first two rounds; they lost by 2 points. One of my other upsets was New Mexico St; they lost by 1. I feel like I was close. Day 2 brought 14 wins my way, which made up for the 1st day and got me to 25 after the first round. Still only 1 sweet sixteen team eliminated. I hit on UC Irvine and Liberty.

I did hit on Murray State on Thursday. You know I had to roll with them and the future Bulls PG. He looked good right? Morant, Lavine, Porter Jr, Markkanen, and Carter Jr. I’ll take it. Of course Friday was the spectacle that is Zion Wiliamson. It will be interesting to see how his NBA career develops. As far as raw talent, it’s off the charts, but…we’ve seen that before in college. The first player that comes to mind when I think of dominant college players back in the day is Glenn Robinson. He was awesome. He did OK in the NBA, buying all his buddies from the Delaney Projects cars. Didn’t last too long though…

I did though, watching to the very last minute Friday night. I was hoping for a buzzer beater; guess we’ll have to wait for the 2nd round for one of those. It’s exciting. The fact that it’s win or go home every single game helps make it great. The big favorites vs the small underdogs; the favorites always prevail in the end though. Would love to see a double digit take it down; we already saw the 16 beat the 1 last year. Oh, congrats Virginia for moving on this year. 16 more games the next 2 days; I can dig it.
