It feels good to win, that’s no secret. Yesterday brought us two wins to feel good about. The Bulls and the Hawks both got nice wins on hump day.
I caught a little bit of both games, some on the TV, some on the radio. Flip mode was definitely in effect, trying to keep up with the ongoings of both affairs. We’re lucky to have good broadcasters too; let’s not underestimate that. This is true for both teams, on both TV AND the radio. These guys know what they’re talking about, and they bring the passion too. We even have one of our own on the nationally televised Hawks games when they assign Eddie O to the game, like they did yesterday. It’s not only him though, across the board from Funk & King, to Foley & Eddie, to Swirsky & Wennington, to Wiedeman & Murray, we’re blessed here in Chicago with some good ones.
The Bulls have been playing better at home. They took a 10 point lead heading into the half. This is where the fun has been starting lately. Actually, it’s more like the 4th quarter. They’ve been running out of gas, and NO, it’s NOT Thibodeau’s fault, especially now. With the 3 guys out, everybody has been playing more than expected. That’s what happens when you have injuries, and that’s why although the Bulls can overcome these injuries in the short term by playing their ass off, in the long term, you need all of your horses. Speaking of minutes, how about this Noah restriction? I think it’s a little ridiculous, and just shows the kind of beefs going on between management and Thibs. It’s really a shame. Hey, Krause and Jackson never got along, and that seemed to work out pretty well. Why can’t we make this work? Can’t we all just get along? I’m sorry, but for my money, there aren’t many better than Thibs right now. I’ll be pissed off if that day comes when they let him go. Is it really his fault that this Bulls team hasn’t cashed in? Is it his fault that Rose has been hurt the past 3 years? Sorry, although I do question some of the things he does, like I do with all of our coaches at one point or another, it’s kind of tough to place blame on him here.
My favorite Bulls broadcaster is Stacey King, although Chuck Swirsky is pretty entertaining on the air waves too. Stacey cracks me up with the little comments he makes during the games. I’m kind of drawing a blank here, but there were a few times in the first half he had me cracking up. I love how he takes those little digs at the opposition, and throws in some of his trademark sayings to help make that good Bulls moment even better. When Noah and West were getting into it, I liked the way he defended Noah saying, we’re not going to put up with this crap in our house. Damn right Stacey, and damn right Joakim. 8-3 in our last 11 home games… that’s what I’m talking about.

What about those Hawks? Big win at the MSG last night over the Rangers. I’m sure that felt good for Richards to get the game winning and only goal of the game yesterday against his ex-team; maybe he can get rolling again… Speaking of rolling, Hawks won 3 in a row for the first time this year when they beat the Islanders on Tuesday, and made it the first time for 4 in a row against the Rangers last night completing the New York sweep. How about Scott Darling? 7-3 with a 1.97 GAA, he recorded his first shutout; he made it a memorable one. I really like this guy, yet the thing is, Raanta has been just as good with a 7-4-1 record and a 1.89 GAA; not bad for two backup goalies. Crawford has been no slouch either; time to lean on the goaltending strength this year all the way to the Cup, and then figure out who goes after this year’s business is finished. It’s great to have 3 very good goaltenders, but you only need 1 and a solid backup. There will be movement.
I love Pat Foley and John Wiedeman. Calling play by play for a hockey game is pretty challenging; I bet they need to rest those vocal chords after each and every game. That’s non stop talking, and they both do it so well. Eddie O is my favorite though. There’s a reason why he’s the national guy too; he breaks stuff down in a way that makes it easier for everyone to understand. He’s always giving those tips to those hockey youngsters out there too; gotta love that. And when he broadcasts nationally, he keeps that Hawks bias hidden, trying to analyze fairly right down the middle; something I definitely couldn’t do. Here’s hoping we hear him broadcast for the Hawks nationally in the Cup Finals again.
Kind of all over the place this morning… I’m excited about March Madness starting today; the first day is always the best. I’m also in a good mood because of our Wednesday Winners. Great to get two wins, and great to get one more game closer to that second season. Anticipation and excitement are in the air…

We are lucky in Chicago to have such good broadcasters, both on tv and the radio. Believe me, there are some horrible guys who make me wonder how they got those jobs, even the national ones.
Anyway, the Bulls and Hawks looking good. All 3 goalies playing great…will need that the rest of the way out, especially in the playoffs! Crow will be expendable after this year if he wants big money. With the talent the Hawks have, goalies will not be paid big bucks. And how about the job the captain has done stepping up his game while his sidekick Kaner is out? Toews has been playing great and scoring more…leading by example!
12 games left for Hawks, 13 games left for Bulls…finish strong and get ready for the postseason!
