March 18, 2022: Jumping

Have you ever been to one of those trampoline places? You know, where the kids run around and bounce off of trampolines in this big indoor park. They can just jump around, play dodgeball, play one of those “Wipeout” games, jump into a pile of foam blocks… it looks like a freaking blast. Took my son to one years ago for a birthday party, and again this Friday, meeting up with one of his baseball friends he hasn’t seen in months. Man, if they had this when I was a kid… Instead, we just figured out how to have fun in the backyard, or played board games with the family. I guess I didn’t really miss much.

The Bulls have been missing, if you may. After the Bulls got their asses kicked in Phoenix on Friday night, they have now lost 8 of their last 10 games. I knew there would be a down streak. I knew those injuries would eventually catch up to us, but man… tough, tough losses lately. Friday was never really in question. The Suns are a better team than the Bulls, point blank… at least without Patrick Williams and Lonzo Ball, the last 2 major injury victims the Bulls whose return they are awaiting. Good news is that Williams may be back for the next game; bad news is that Lonzo doesn’t appear close. Will adding Williams make that much of a difference? Would HE have helped the Bulls win any of these past 8 losses? Hmmm… him AND Ball back, maybe…

I said I wasn’t panicking a couple weeks ago, but now… I think I’m still OK. I’ve seen stuff about people thinking the Bulls may keep skidding right out of the playoffs. I don’t think so. Sure, they’ve dropped to the 5 seed, but to miss the playoffs? Especially with these BS play in games? I think those of you who think that can come back in from the ledge now. Yes, our 7th NBA Title hopes may have taken a beating through this string of games, but I certainly think the Bulls will achieve our goal for them since the start of the season, and that is, to make the playoffs. The Bulls WILL make the playoffs. What will happen when we get there? Where will we be seeded? Those are the more important questions.

Or maybe concerns… You’ve seen the Bulls record against better teams… it’s bad… really bad. Regardless of the seeding, our first round playoff game will be against a pretty good team. There won’t be teams like the Kings in there… oh wait, we just lost to them too. OK, like the Pistons then… You get my point. Getting Williams back into the flow of things will be important; not getting Ball back until the playoffs… that could be hurtful. The defense has certainly got a shot in the arm with Caruso returning, and will be helped with the return of Williams, but it’s that side of the ball that will especially miss Ball. Here’s hoping he starts to respond…

OK, let’s take that punch in the mouth in Phoenix, and keep it moving; we’ve been getting punched in the mouth a lot lately… let’s hope the Bulls have a good chin. Because the Bulls are doing the exact opposite of what my son was doing Friday night. Yes, trying to think of the opposite of jumping… Falling? That sounds about right… Home against Toronto on Monday night to see how our chin is doing…
