March 17, 2025: St. Patty’s Day

On a Monday?!?! Most celebrated this weekend from what I could see. Funny, we went to the Bulls game on Thursday night; the giveaway was a green “St Patrick’s Day” Bulls vest. Saw a lot of those in the streets this weekend. Saw a handful of videos with fights. Go figure… add large amounts of alcohol to large groups of people; what do you think is going to happen? I guess it’s OK because the beer was green? Haha… Hey, I’m 25% Irish, and I don’t think I’ve ever had a green beer… go figure. Over all my years??? I have had an Irish Car Bomb…

Never really went all out for St. Patty’s Day over the years; it’s kind of like New Year’s Eve to me. It’s amateur hour. Everybody gets crazy on those days. Why do I need to do that if I get crazy on the other 363… haha. Well, that was the theory back then. Now, since I rarely “get crazy” any more, should I get hammered on these special occasions? There is a case to be made for that. Should I have taken off work to do so? Maybe. I’ve already got a day off scheduled later this week… catching that madness…

I saw something pretty cool related to this day. Ever see the movie The Fugitive? If you haven’t, go watch it, right now. I fricking love that movie. Of course, being filmed in Chicago helps; Harrison Ford, Chicago born actor, in the lead role. It’s a good movie, just trust me. In the movie, there was a scene where Tommy Lee Jones is trying to find Harrison Ford in the crowd during the St. Patrick’s Parade… that was the actual St. Patrick’s Day parade in downtown Chicago that year. I saw an interview Tommy Lee Jones did with a local reporter the day of filming; really cool. I guess the scene was filmed with handheld camera, as they bobbed and weaved through the crowd. As if I needed another reason to like this movie…

Another movie that I think about when it comes to March 17th is State of Grace; how about that one? I like it… not as much as The Fugitive, but it is a very good movie IMO; Sean Penn, Gary Oldham, Ed Harris… the Irish mafia in New York. Great flick. The last scene takes place on the day of New York’s St. Patty’s Day parade. I won’t tell you what the last scene is about, but it’s a great ending.

OK. I should have had a Corned Beef sandwich today; I did wear a green hoodie. Saw some folks walking around downtown Chicago with some green on, but looks like the majority of the partying had already been done the last couple days. What’s the best place to get a Corned Beef sandwich in Chicago outside of Manny’s? I was looking at that; there are other options. Don’t have to wait until next year to grab one of those. I’m getting hungry now. As for the green beer… I really should try it.
