What do you want to hear when you tune into a sports radio station? I know what I want to hear.
I want to hear about my local sports teams… that’s it. Sure, when it’s championship time in any sport, I guess a little bit of the national scene is OK, but in general, I don’t care about that either. If I want to hear about the national scene, I’ll tune into ESPN… oh, excuse me, the “worldwide” scene. Again, I don’t want to watch an hour long show with 55 of those minutes dedicated to national coverage. I want to see my local teams’ highlights, period. And when I tune into sports radio, I want to hear about Chicago sports; that’s why I was never a fan of Mike and Mike. I do listen to ESPN radio as long as they are talking local sports. But mostly, I tune into the Score.
There were some notable changes made on that station this week. Mully and Hanley stood the same; they are the ones I primarily listen to on the Score. If I want to hear sports talk in the morning on the way to work, that’s my only option on the radio; ESPN is national during that timeslot. On the way home from work, I switch back and forth between the Score and ESPN. Lately, I’ve found myself listening to more and more of ESPN.

Reason being is I don’t want to hear a sports talk show that doesn’t talk about sports, you know, the whole Stick to Sports adage. Now I think everyone is entitled to their opinion, and if they’d like, they can certainly feel free to share that opinion. Folks don’t have to stick to sports, or stick to whatever their “expert” field is; they can certainly chime in on other subjects. I’m sure there are plenty of intelligent views out there from all us “non-experts”. However, I really don’t want to hear that crap when I’m tuning in to listen to sports talk… sorry. And that’s what that Score timeslot brought us… and that’s why they made a change.
Heck, I agreed with a lot of the views that were shared. There is a lot of crazy crap going on, especially nowadays. Our president is “special”. If you’d like, you can drive yourself crazy with all the stuff out there; you can get yourself pretty pissed off… to the point where you feel you have to say something. I get it. I do. But, I’m trying NOT to drive myself crazy. I’m definitely not tuning into CNN or any news station on the TV; I’m definitely not tuning into listen to any political talk show on the radio. If I’m not listening to music, I’m tuning into sports talk radio; I want to hear about my teams… that’s it…simple.
I do understand from time to time, something may happen in our world that you MUST say something about, but if I’m not hearing 90%+ Chicago sports, I’m not listening. We’ll see how the new Score lineup goes… we’ll see if I keep that dial on them vs tuning to ESPN on the drive home. After all, I guess Waddle and Silvy aren’t that bad.

Do not really listen to talk radio of any kind, even sports. It is rare if I do and usually only when Im driving with you. But if I did listen to sports talk radio, I would expect to hear about sports, whether national or local, depending on the station. Yes, there may be a small percentage of other opinions on matters, but 90% should be about sports. Everybody has an opinion on everything…doesn’t make it right or wrong. You want to put your opinions out there, be ready for people with differing opinions to argue the other side(s). As for talk radio, I am fine without it now. Maybe in the future that will change. Hope the Score lineup makes you keep the dial on!
