How would you describe watching the Chicago Bulls right now? I think I figured it out; it’s like a dental visit. It’s something that you know you should do, but you know it’s not going to be pleasant. Yeah, that’s about right.
Honestly, I have been avoiding these visits; I’ve only been watching bits and pieces of the Bulls games lately. I guess that’s always an option, but not a really good one for us fans. We want to watch our team; sometimes we may feel obliged to. Sometimes, we may just say screw it, and save ourselves the frustration. That’s kind of where I’ve been.
On Monday night, they actually pulled out a win. I was keeping tabs on the game. I saw them up early, then even, then up again. As I watched the end of the 4th quarter, I just knew they would blow it. So… I saved myself the disgust, and decided to walk the dog, instead of watch the final minutes. I was surprised to see when I returned, that they did hold on and win that ballgame. I wasn’t so mad that I missed it. I was happy that they won.
Wednesday night was more of the same. I didn’t like the match up at all against the Grizzlies. I like a lot of their players; they seem to do very well against us. So again, I was keeping tabs on the game, until I finally sat down to watch the 4th quarter; I walked the dog earlier. I wasn’t going to look away this time… I wasn’t going to find something else to do. I was going to watch the end of this game, and hope for a Bulls win.
Buzzer sound!!! Wrong!!! I liked the Green unis and all; maybe it could be like Thursday night on TNT… “the last 20 games the Bulls wore the Green Uniforms they’ve won”… I’m just making that up. No such luck. The result was what I had expected. It was like getting all that plaque picked off my teeth; scrape, scrape, scrape.

It gave me a slight headache, but then I moved past it… until now. In fact, even writing about the Bulls these days is painful. It’s the same old story, over, and over, and over again. The Bulls are going to miss the playoffs for the 2nd straight year; I’m pretty sure of that. Considering the Eastern Conference, and the players on our roster both last year and this year, that is pathetic…. PATHETIC!
We’re not that stupid, to think our Bulls can go all the way… but come on. Making the playoffs should be a slam dunk, but I guess even dunks are missed sometimes. Maybe another good term for this Bulls team’s performance: A Missed Dunk that clangs off the rim back down court.
I could go on with the same Fire everybody mantra, and I still do believe that, but for what? Do I really want to volunteer myself for a root canal? No, I’ll just continue to keep tabs on the Bulls, and watch casually; I just can’t sit there and watch a whole game any more. The past 2 years it’s been like this. I get so damn frustrated… they are the team (Bears too) that make me scream at the TV. I can’t do that in front of my son too much. So, I back off a bit… I always know what the score is, but cannot watch wire to wire at this point. Does that make me a bad fan?
Like not going to the dentist, does that make me a bad person? Next appointment is in 2 Mondays; next game for the Bulls is at Washington on Friday. Here’s hoping for a semi-pleasant visit.

Going to the dentist…ugh…the Bulls are not quite on that low a level for me, but I like the analogy. More and more, it seems like the Bulls will be missing the playoffs…again. Pretty damn sad considering the weakness of the east. Just like the Bears, this offseason is going to determine the Bulls future. At least, I hope it will establish a better direction for this team. Things are bad right now, but it may not take as much to turn things around as we may think.
As for this year, playoffs? Playoffs?? The road there is getting darker and shorter…will the Bulls make it? Stay tuned.
