Don’t you just love the way the NHL classifies injuries? The only thing from another sport that I can compare it with, is the New England Patriots injury report. Wasn’t Brady listed as questionable every week one year? But let’s consider the source there…damn cheaters.
But in the NHL, it’s ok to classify injuries as such. Unfortunately, the Hawks had to list one after Tuesday night’s game in Montreal. The game was going well with an early 1-0 lead off a Kane goal, a beauty at that…can’t believe the D let him out of all guys skate in that wide open. The goalie never had a chance.
It was Anisimov who got pinned against the wall; it didn’t look good. I thought it was a knee, but after the game, seeing him in a walking boot, figured ankle. In the postgame interview, Coach Q said it wasn’t serious. Funny that I thought that was good news. I figured he’d miss about 2 weeks; he’ll miss more than that. He is tabbed to be back for the playoffs.
It’s not the end of the world. I’d like for him to get a couple games in before the playoffs; he still might. The upside is we get to see Schmaltz center the Kane and Bread Man line. In the two short stints on that line, we’ve seen some cool stuff. The Bread Man goal later in this one, and I believe it was a Kane goal the last time. But what of the Toews line that was clicking like crazy a couple weeks ago?
I saw the Hawks signed some guy from Yale I think. He could be on the line. I keep reading about these other prospects we have. Don’t think there is a shortage of guys to insert, but the key is how well will they do.

Did you see the other potential injury in that game? Yeah, when Crow got hit right in the mask with a Weber slapshot. Ouch! After a quick consultation with the trainer, and the refs taking a quick check, he stood in. If this was the NFL, he’s out with concussion protocol. What’s the hockey version of that? If anything could be a concussion, I would think that to be a top candidate. When Coach Q was asked, he sort of deflected, referencing the trainers and refs signing off. I was happy to see Crow remain in, and beat his hometown team…again. Just wonder if that creeps back in a couple days from now.
Don’t want to see an upper body injury on the report, after Anisimov was tabbed with the lower body injury. Anybody injured is not good for our Hawks as they make their playoff push. 13 games to go, 1 point lead over the Wild, and an exciting ending to come. No more injuries por favor.
Ottawa is next on the 1-2-3 Canada road trip; the last game of the road trip is at Toronto. Boy they love their hockey up there; it’s a real treat for them to see the Hawks. I bet they appreciate good hockey more than your average NHL road stop. An original six matchup was a bonus.
Not sure about you, but why is it that I really don’t fear the Eastern Conference teams? Why do I feel it’s going to be tougher getting out of the West, then it would be if we actually make it to the Final? Ottawa has been hot; they’ll have their shot at us next. Go Hawks!

Another sWeet Kane goal. Exactly right about how the defenders left him wide open to go at the goalie one on one…no chance. Tough injury for anisimov but glad to hear he will be back. It did not look good, and I thought season ender. Hope he gets some rest, heals up, and is ready for the playoffs. Crow took a head shot that knocked him down. Goalies, in general, have to be pretty damn tough. Wearing all that equipment and carrying it around for 60+ minutes a game, plus taking 100+ mph shots at every angle and off of every body part is pretty damn tough in my book. Yes, they are heavily padded and wear head gear but still. Crow and the Bhawks got another road W and roll into ottawa to face the sens next. Bring it on. Stay hot Bhawks and no more injuries, upper or lower, please!
