Oh yeah… almost forgot; the baseball strike is over! There will be baseball this year. We can now proceed to plan our summer vacation which includes going to see the Cubs on the road at some point. So why did it take this long?
When the initial lockout was announced, it feels like everybody took a vacation… about a few weeks too long. If they had got back to the negotiating table sooner, this could have been resolved sooner, and there would be zero delays. I don’t think I’m that smart, or the people at the negotiating table are that stupid, but… seems pretty straightforward to me. One thing that was NOT part of the negotiations was a salary cap; why not? It’s called levelling the playing field, so rich guys like the Yankees cannot stack their team beyond belief while poor guys like the Cubs are left to play behind the 8 ball… Of course I joke, about the Cubs being poor that is… but the point still remains. All teams should have the exact amount of money to pay out to their squads, but what do I know.
I do know that the Cubs are fortunate enough to actually have a lot of money to spend. I do know that they won’t be spending much of it this year. As we are thankful that baseball is back, we can now transition to looking at the Cubs and talking crap about how bad they’ll be. Sure, free agency isn’t over yet… and I’m sure, I just feel it, that the Cubs will actually sign somebody… another Andrelton Simmons if you may? That’s what we’ll be working with this year, because, you know, the Cubs’ owners need to recover some of that money they lost during COVID… that’s why they couldn’t resign any of Baez, Rizzo, or Bryant last year… How full of shit are these guys?
I’ll still never forget how they did that last year. Sure, I’ll continue to root for the Cubs, that will never change, but… among the stupidest things this franchise has ever done, will be last summer, dumping every one of our big three. And now the Bears dumped Mack? Lots of jerseys out there with players no longer playing in Chicago… maybe everybody can get that American Express money back for a traded player’s jersey, or is that only in the NBA? Why am I getting pissed right now? This was supposed to be a happy “baseball is back” blog… I can’t help it.
In a division that ain’t that great, the Cubs chose to put themselves farther from contention than closer to it, but… have no fear. With the extra playoff teams, maybe the Cubs will be able to sneak in just below the 500 mark, and have Hendricks pitch each game in the postseason… yeah, I can see it now, and Frank Schwindel will be the MV…. oh shit, forget it. As the Cubs sit on their hands, as we watch all the big name free agents come off the board, signed by some other team, just remember how great it is to watch a game in Wrigley, and how “die-hard” we truly are, because I got a feeling, we’ll be doing a lot of that this year… dying that is… even on the road during our summer vacation supporting our Cubbies… SMDH… We deserve better… There’s always 2016, there’s always 2016, there’s always 2016…
