March 13, 2015: Unlucky Guy

posted in: Bulls | 2

It’s Friday the 13th for the 2nd time already this year.  Known for being an unlucky day, let’s check in on the most unlucky athlete in Chicago today.

Derrick Rose finally spoke this week after his 3rd knee injury in as many years.  You feel bad for the guy, to have to go through everything he’s went through.  You believe the rest of the team when they say they’re behind him 110% and that he’s their brother.  Then the guy opens his mouth…

Maybe we just look for anything to pick on with Rose.  Considering he’s been off the court more than he’s been on the court in the past 3 years, it’s easy to focus on what happens off the court.  I’d much rather be focusing on what he does on the court, then picking apart everything that comes out of his mouth.  That being said, he really doesn’t help himself…

Of course the first comment that comes to mind is the “saving himself for his kid’s graduation” gem.  That pissed me off, just like I’m sure it pissed off a lot of fans.  However, I gave him a mulligan on that one.  I really hadn’t heard many things like that come out of his mouth previously.  I gave him the benefit of the doubt, and hoped that the people that he looks to, that he takes advice from, when it comes to what to and what not to say, would tell him how stupid that was to say that.  Regardless of what you’re really thinking, you just can’t say that.  It may be the harsh reality, but nobody wants to hear it positioned that way.  So we look for our athletes to be honest, but yet criticize them when they are?  It’s a double edged sword.

So the questions come at him again, about his return date.  He says maybe… could be… I have faith… I listen to my body…  when I’m ready, I’m ready… I don’t really care what others say.  Did he really say anything THAT wrong?  I’m not even going to argue that point, but I will argue that fact that he didn’t say anything THAT right.

What is the harm of this being somewhere in his response?  I can’t wait to get back on the court.  I want to get back out there and battle with my teammates.  I’m not going to let another injury slow me down.  The goal is STILL to win an NBA title this year, and I’m confident I will still be a big part of that.  I WILL be back on the court, and we WILL make a run at that 7th title.  I will give it every ounce of what I got to try to bring it back for all the fans in my hometown of Chicago.  That is my #1 goal above anything else… to win an NBA title with the Chicago Bulls.

What a difference that would make…  Don’t give anybody a chance to say anything.  You go out there and say the right things; hopefully you really do feel that way deep down, and just don’t know how to express it.  Show some passion… show some heart…  show some desire… show some emotion.  When he talks, he’s like a wet noodle.  He’s just not very inspiring.  Is that his fault?  We expect our superstars to be everything, but sometimes they’re just not that person.  Sometimes, they’re the soft spoken kind who would rather show you on the court then tell you.  That’s the unfortunate part… he hasn’t been on the court enough to make that kind of statement.

What is his #1 goal?  He’s got enough money.  I don’t think he has to worry about that.  Does he want to play 10 more years in this league?  At this rate, that’s highly unlikely.  I’d be shocked if he played 5 more years.  So… if one of his top priorities, what should be his TOP priority, is to win an NBA title, then the time is now.  You don’t know how many more years you’ll be on the court Derrick, let alone how many more good chances you’ll have at it.  This may be the best chance you have in your entire career.

So get back on the court as soon as possible.  Throw caution to the wind, and forget about the future.  It’s all about the RIGHT NOW.  Throw everything you go into making that happen… and don’t be afraid to let people know that either… IF that’s the way you really feel.  Because I’m still giving you the benefit of the doubt, but I’m starting to doubt… I’m starting to let the haters talk get in my head.  Not seeing you on the court, and hearing the things you say isn’t helping.  Yet, I still believe.  I still believe you can come back and we can win.  I believe that that’s what you want too.  Forget about what’s already happened, and focus on what’s left.  I believe you can… I believe you will.  Do it for you.  Do it for your family.  Do it for your fans.  Do it for your home town.  Just do it.

i agree, belatedly. show some emotion. show some desire. show some ‘wanna’ get back. do it for the fans. do it for the game. do it for the team. do it for the city that has been behind you for the most part. show it for the bulls that have allowed you to be financially set for life without actually playing! JUST DO IT
