March 11, 2015: Jay Again

Say it ain’t so.

I was getting excited.  When Marshall was dumped, I thought Jay could be next.  When I heard the Kaepernick rumors, it was too good to be true.  When I read that the Titans were going to try to acquire Jay, I wished.  I was ready to buy that bottle of champagne to celebrate the departure of #6, but it didn’t happen.

The reality has set in, that we are stuck with him.  We can thank Emery & Trestman for that.  Why, why, why would you sign someone to multiple years of big money who has proven diddly squat?  All we had to do was franchise him, pay up the $20 million last year, and he would be gone.  Jay Cutler is slowly turning out to be the biggest disappointment in Chicago sports history.

Can he save himself?  Sure.  Winning cures all.  I’ve said it before, and I’ll say it again… the only way he “saves” himself in my book, is to win a Super Bowl.  Then I will remember how excited I was when we first got him.  I’ll remember the good Jay… his many TD passes to Marshall, his nice 1st down runs, his cannon arm.  The season that he leads us to that Super Bowl victory will trump all, and he will be universally loved.  This is all true, but it resembles a fantasy more than anything…

The reality is, nobody wants him.  We can’t get rid of him.  So, instead of just cutting him outright, we hold onto him for at least another year, maybe two.  We talk about how we have no good alternatives.  We hope that Gase can spark some magic with him.  We hope that the Coach Killer is contained, and that good Jay is released.  Welcome to your 2015 Chicago Bears.

Honestly, I would rather have anybody else… ANYBODY ELSE at QB besides him.  I don’t care if it WAS Claussen.  Yes, maybe that seals another losing season, but how many games did the Million Dollar man win last year?  5 games!?!  Yeah, cue the defense sucked, it wasn’t his fault, Trestman was horrible, yada, yada…  We could get almost ANY QB to win 5 games.  Why are we paying one $20 million to do so?

I was hoping to get that money back in our pockets.  To invest the majority of it back into the defense.  To rely on a game manager with a strong running game to hold up the offensive flag in this battle.  Our bread and butter would be the defense once again.  That’s a team I could get behind.  But who am I kidding… I will support this team regardless.

That’s the part that makes me sick… that I will have to spend another year rooting for mr jerk face.  I have no choice.  I can’t root against him.  Anybody that puts on that Bears uniform, I will support… regardless of my personal feelings.  He is our QB.  I will root for him.

And while I dream of the day when he isn’t our QB… of that day when I drop one of the biggest Hate Files ever… of that day I rank the top ex-Chicago players that I hate…  of that day when we can put this botched decade behind us… I stay in the present, at least I try to.  The reality is Jay Cutler will be the Bears QB for at least another year.  New regime, same old Jay.  We think something will change?  We should know better.  It’s a losing proposition.  I’m going to have to come to grips with it.  I’m going to have to stop hoping for that breaking news to hit that he’s gone, and embrace the fact that he will be back on the field, in a Bears uniform.  Jay again…

we can only hope that fox decodes the mystery that is jc. and that the team they put around him makes him look better. ‘it is what we thought it would be’

Amen. Cutler is staying with the Bears. I am not happy about it, but he probably still gives us the best chance to win. With a new gm and coaching staff, we can only hope that they can bring the best out in jay…cannot get much worse can it? Either way, let’s hope he has a short leash if he keeps turning the ball over and playing like a below average qb. Pace and fox need the run the Bears, not j. If he can’t lead and win, tighten that leash and walk his ass to the bench…sit boy, good j!
