June 9, 2017: All The Fixings

Did you really think ABC was going to allow a sweep in Warriors Cavs III?  There was no way possible. With this NBA Finals being the most watched since MJ played in the Finals, they were going to squeeze every last dollar out of this one.  Yep, all the fixings were in play on Friday night in Cleveland; it’s not surprising.

I read something like $22 million dollars would be lost if the series ended on this night.  That’s a whole lot of dough.  It’s probably more than that.  The network, the cities, the stadiums.. the list goes on.  For an NBA playoff season that was trash, this is its saving grace.  They need to make the most bang for the buck in this final series of the year.  Don’t buy into this conspiracy theory?

That’s understandable.  Nobody wants to get into this conversation.  OK, let me rephrase that; nobody with any type of rank in the sports world, writers, TV personalities, etc, will seriously have this talk; I’m sure they have been instructed not to.  Everyone else can set Twitter a fire with these talks… but how serious can you take Twitter?

OK, so I’m not helping my point.  But Twitter isn’t always wrong…  And if you don’t believe that any games are fixed over the years, then you are kidding yourself.  Wait, it has been proven that it happened.  Remember that NBA official that came out?  Tim Donaghy?  Ring a bell?  Read up on it.  Yep, and you think he was the only one ever?  And you think basketball is the only sport?

Basketball is probably the easiest sport to fix.  Giving the other team multiple opportunities at “free” points… putting the other team in foul trouble… killing momentum runs with timely calls or no-calls.  Is that what happened in Game 4?

Honestly, I don’t know; I didn’t even watch it.  From what I heard and read, it’s not surprising that people think it was.  I knew this series wouldn’t be a sweep.  I think the NBA/ABC may press their luck and try to get this series to 6.  I remember when it was another network that stretched a series.

Back in 1996, Bulls Sonics…  Bulls took the first two at the UC, then went on the road and dominated the Sonics in Game 3.  Game, set, match; NBC say no.  The Sonics were no slouches that year; they were a very good team.  But this was the 72-10 Bulls… this was MJ back in the Finals for the first time since his first retirement.  The Bulls went up 3-0; the series was over… or was it?

They ended up losing the next two… how this happened, why this happened… take a guess.  But, it was pretty cool that the series ended in Chicago on Father’s Day considering all that had happened.  Coincidence?

There’s too many of those over the years; I can’t even remember them all.  Nobody can tell me that this type of stuff doesn’t exist.  Not all the time, not every game, but it’s out there.

It kind of sucks.  You need to hope you’re on the right side of it sometimes.  Will the Warriors close them out on Monday night?  Will the powers that be allow it?  You make the call.

You can be certain that there are higher powers that try to influence games and/or series one way or the other. Even with that, it does not always work, but Im sure there have been tons of games where it has. If I were a betting man this finals, I would be 4-0. Just did not think the nba would allow a sweep, not after one of the worst nba playoff seasons ever. Now the game 5 line is gsw -9 to close it out? Wow. So what happens? Does this series get extended and sent back to dumpland? I dont think so, but I do think the game will be kept close and see what happens at the end. Hoping gsw ends things tonight, but the fixings will never end.
