It wasn’t the way I thought it would end. I was all in on the Vegas Golden Knights. I thought they’d complete the magical run and cash those 500-1 tickets for all those folks who took a gamble before the first puck dropped. But you know Papa Vegas wasn’t going to let that happen; this time it was the home town team that took the hit.
Or maybe it was the matchup on paper that finally stood up. The team with the advantage held true and won the Cup. The Capitals had never won. Now, they’re raising the Cup and celebrating like crazy. Yeah, I miss those Cup runs. The big wins. The celebrations. The following of the Cup. The parade. Now the city of DC will get to experience it. Being the first time, it makes it that much more special.
Their true fans had to suffer through some stuff. They paid their dues. I can respect that. I’m happy for all those true fans. Enjoy it; it doesn’t get better than this.
That’s what the whole thing was against Vegas winning it all. The fact that they’re a first year team. I changed my position on that pretty quickly, appreciating how this team was built…from cast offs…and how they defied all odds to get to this point. But some people wouldn’t let it go. When they showed that commercial, talking about die hard Vegas fans… I could see how that could annoy some people. That commercial was pretty annoying.
Die hard? I don’t thinks Vegas Golden Knight fans know the meaning of that. They got their first lesson with this series loss. Now, if they’re true fans, they’re dying hard. A loss like that stings. To get all the way to the finish line and come up short, yeah that hurts. I could relate to that; I can’t really relate to Vegas fans in general though.

To grow up not having a home town team. You had no choice but to hook your allegiances to another team. Considering the number of transplants, folks probably already had their teams. But to be born and raised there…yeah, I guess I could see how you would get behind this team immediately. For those people, I get it, and yeah, they’re dying hard right now. I think it’s only the beginning though.
Maybe not for this team specifically, but for Vegas teams in general. The Raiders are up next. An NBA team should be next; don’t see why a MLB team wouldn’t follow. Especially with sports betting making its way to other states, there really is no reason why not. Although day games for a baseball team out there could get pretty ugly; that would be hot.
Congrats on a great season though. If I held that golden ticket, I definitely would have hedged my bet. With a $20 bet, and a potential 10k payoff waiting, yeah, I would have bet heavy on the Caps to win the series. They were dogs too. I would have bet 2k on them easy. Then, put 1k on them each game. So if Vegas didn’t pull it off, I’d still walk away up 5k.
Anyways, one sport is done. How’d that other series turn out? I’m smiling.

What a run by the first year vegas golden knights! It was exciting to see with a disappointing ending. I thought this series was going 7. It seemed like the knights ran out of gas while the caps kept the pedal to the metal. Congrats to the caps and ovi! They finally got their Cup…no problems with that. I do miss the Blackhawks playing playoff hockey and hoisting the Cup. It has only been 3 years but sure seems like longer. I hope they retool and rest up to come back hungrier than ever. Rebuild? Not yet. The ending for this Bhawks team and core has yet to be written! GO HAWKS!!!
