June 5, 2024: Walk Off Magic

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 0

Only the Cubs Sox games right? Bottom of the ninth… tie game. Kopech comes into the game. His first fastball was high, clocked in at 100. I’m not sure how fast his 2nd pitch was, but Tauchman, out of all guys, put a solid swing on it, and that sucker flew into the bleachers. Cubs win, Cubs win, Cubs win… A little walk off magic to complete the back to back 7-6 victories over the hapless Sox. We should be happy, right?

Right. A win is a win is a win. I don’t care that the Sox haven’t won since April, or whatever. We know, that when the crosstown “rivals” tangle, the records don’t mean shit. These games mean a little more, no matter what anybody says. So yeah I’m happy. I do feel bad that the Sox are that bad… but I’ll be OK… haha. As far as the Sox… geez. I didn’t think they’d be THIS bad. Remember, I bet on the over for their season win total of 61.5… they could lose 100 games and I’d still win!!! Well… they may lose 120. Ugly times on the South Side.

Bigger picture for the Cubs… they needed these wins, and not just because they were against the Sox. They were against a bad team, a team we should beat, and oh yeah, the Cubs have been playing like shit too. Now what? Hopefully these exciting wins will give us a boost, and we can start playing a little better. The Cubs are a 500 team. They are in 2nd place in the division, 5 games behind the Brewers. They are 5 over at home, and 5 under on the road, where they will play their next 7 games. These wins were great, no doubt, but big picture? Come back to Wrigley in about a week with a winning road trip, then let’s talk.

Are we worried about Imanaga? He’s been the diamond this year, but the last two starts… He’s still been very, very good; I’m not worried… yet. But, as other teams get tape of him, there will be adjustments; now it’s Shota’s turn. Is he good enough to do so? Did he just have a couple bad games? What about Steele? He hasn’t looked like himself. Assad will get the first chance on the mound on Thursday night in Cincy. If the Cubs are going to do anything this year, the big 3 need to be the big 3.

The Sox stay in Chicago and welcome the other Sox… the only two major league teams whose name doesn’t end in an S will tangle for 4 at the cell, or whatever it’s called now. Where do the Sox go from here? I don’t know, and I don’t much care, but I would like them to win 62 games this year, and maybe Robert can hit a ton of HRs??? See you in about 2 months.
