June 5, 2016: Life’s a Beach

You know I haven’t checked my work phone once on this trip?  Pretty impressive considering. Maybe not a big deal to most, but I thought I’d have a harder time. Guess not. I did pack it, but not once….

It seems like work is a thousand miles away…and it literally is. The day I felt like that more than ever was our day at the beach. Huntington Beach was our choice; it’s one of my favorites.

It wasn’t your prototypical beach morning. It was 70 degrees and overcast. But I wasn’t worried. Living in California for a number of years, you know of the term June gloom. During this month, it sometimes takes the sun hours to burn through the overcast skies. And it did on this day too. About 1pm, the skies were blue and the sun was blazing. That sun gets mighty hot.

We met my wife’s friend and her son at the beach this day. I loved playing with him and of course my son on the beach. They played with shovels, digging in the sand, collecting shells. They played with trucks, driving them through the sand making tracks. They played with buckets, dumping the water that I retrieved for them, making mud.  To me, it was the epitome of the term Life’s a Beach.

The ocean was one of favorite parts of California. We went there often.  I remember body boarding at Zuma Beach. I remember swimming in the rain with my brother on one of his visits. I remember watching the fireworks from the rocks at Manhattan Beach I believe. I’ve had good memories at Huntington Beach as well, and this day just added to it.

The whole story brand viagra started after their marriage. I was reminded how powerful the water could be. Only about 10-15 feet from the sand, I was tossed around like a rag doll…and I’m 6’3″ 240+.  Those waves were rolling in, and came crashing into me. As I tried to ride them with only my body, I was twisted and thrown, just happy my trunks weren’t ripped off.  There would have been screams like it was a shark attack.

Speaking of shark attacks, we read that later that day, the beaches just north of Huntington were shutdown due to a shark sighting. Wow!  Glad I didn’t venture to far out; that shark would have had himself a good meal.

But back to laying on the beach…it doesn’t get much better. Soaking in that sun, listening to the waves roll in, watching my wife relaxing, watching my son play around…  Yeah, it was heaven on earth. We followed that up with hitting one of our favorites for lunch.

Fred’s is the name, and me and my wife’s favorite was the lobster tacos. But they stopped that a while ago…can’t remember why.  We’re still pissed, but there’s plenty of other choices. My selection stuck to the script. After a Pacifico on tap, it was calamari steak tacos. Yeah, it was pretty damn good.

The whole day was. The family was happy and worn out as we headed back to the room. We were all ripe for an early bed time, which was perfect considering the plans we had for the next day. Yeah, it’s a place that can definitely compare.  One of the happiest places in earth. That’s next, and no, we weren’t heading to Wrigley Field.
