Hey, I know it’s Cubs season… and yeah, the Cubs are fricking great… and yeah, of course we hope to see them playing into October… and usually that’s OK, because the other team starting up hasn’t been good for a while… since last year that is. And now, heading into this season… there’s Super Bowl on the brain. I can’t wait for Bears football!!!
The whole 100th year anniversary thing too. It’s perfect timing. Many of those Bear greats who are still living will be together in Rosemont this weekend celebrating the anniversary… about 200 of them. How cool would it be to be there? Costs about $100 I think… not totally ridiculous, but that’s before autographs of course. Still, I wouldn’t even care about that… just to see them all, talk to some of them. So many greats have worn the Blue and Orange… so many greats that a guy like Urlacher could be the 4th best linebacker in this franchise. Then on the flip side, I was reading about the Bears all time leading receiver Johnny Morris… who ranks 288th on the NFL all time list. That’s crazy. To have so much talent at one position and so little at another; you can throw QB in there too. But with the defense this Bears franchise could field for their all-time team, you wouldn’t need much at QB to win a bunch. We’re used to that too.
But now, do we have somebody at QB finally? I don’t know… from everything I’m reading, Mitch is way more comfortable heading into his 2nd full season in the league and in this offense. That’s a very good thing. With the Bears dumping Howard, I see lots of passes this year… more than last year. Yes, maybe not so much down the field, but tons of different throws, using tons of different packages, keeping opposing defenses off balance with those throws that are like runs mixed in there. The WR position looks to be one of strength this year, which is weird. And of course the defense. Everything I’ve been reading so far about this team has me believing more and more about the preseason predictions of the Bears being right in the mix for that trophy.

How great is Coach Nagy? Yeah, OK, so he didn’t act when he should have to get rid of Parkey last year, and our weakest link cost us in the playoffs, but… he stuck by his word of sticking by his guys. He got burned, the team got burned, and now, he’s gone. Lesson learned? I’m already moving past that, taking it as the last piece of what we needed to push this team over the top. Remember, most of the great Chicago teams took a heartbreaking loss(es) before they won it all. The double doink is this team’s heartbreaker? I hope so.
Normally, nothing will mess with my Cubs viewing… sure, I’ll sacrifice early season games for some postseason Bulls or Hawks, but early Bears games usually take a back seat. This year it will be tougher than ever. Can we scoop both titles? I don’t know what the heck I’d do with myself. Speaking of those Cubs, first thing’s first…
