It’s been a long week… That first week back from vacation is always tough. You figure out a way to get through Monday, barely; Tuesday is still not going too well. Wednesday feels almost normal. It’s not until like Thursday do you sort of feel back in the groove, and then it’s Friday, and the weekend is here! Well, I was looking for something to cheer me up, and what better thing to do than go to Wrigley to watch the Cubs. I was on the hunt…
Tickets were reasonable, but hold on… the weather Thursday night was shaky. As I was leaving work, the skies were dark; as I got off the train, it was pouring. Maybe this isn’t going to happen, but then… it cleared up. I checked my phone and it was a 20% chance of rain the rest of the evening; I like my odds. Back to the phone checking for seats. Of course, had to make sure my son was in; he was. Made sure my wife would be able to drop us off and pick us up; she was. OK, now to the prices… Knowing my son, I knew we wouldn’t be in our seats the whole game. It kind of goes like this: first 3 innings in our seats, next 3 playing catch outside, and the final 3 wandering around, sitting in other seats. So… the cheaper the seats, the better. Personally, I like down the lines, downstairs, in the 200 level; found a pair. $47 for both tickets after fees? Yeah, I’m good; got them.
We were off; headed to Wrigley last minute. Got dropped off on Southport, picked up some peanuts, gatorade, and water on the walk over Addison, and sat down just before the anthem; perfect. There was another reason I was hoping to go on this Thursday evening, besides “just” summertime Cubs at Wrigley; I wanted to see Kyle Hendricks pitch again. Here he was; the last man standing from that 2016 curse busting team. I love Kyle. Funny enough, he faced the other Kyle from that team, you know, the Mighty Schwarbino; my son and I both agreed that Hendricks threw Schwarber a bone on that first pitch, the one that was hit over the fence in the flash of an eye. Haha.. that’s cool. Hendricks looked to settle in after that. If it wasn’t for that 2 out, 2 RBI hit by Bryce, this game may have went to extras…
It would have been nice if the Cubs had scored more than 1 run. I swear, this is our 3rd time to Wrigley this year (I believe)… the first game, they were shutout I think, the second game, they were shutout until the 9th, when they sent it to extras, where they scored some more runs, and now this one… 1 run. WTF?!?! Wrigley in the summer is never a bad place to be, especially sitting next to my boy and playing catch with him outside the stadium, but man… would it kill the Cubs to score some more fricking runs when we’re in the house?!?!
OK, chalk up another L; haven’t seen 1 W this year. We’ll look to change that next time, whenever that is. Maybe we need to take a road trip to break up this streak… who knows. I do know that regardless of how pissed I am at the Cubs front office for fielding a weak ass team, the manager for being a bonehead, and anything else that I’m bitching about at the current time, I love the Cubs; Wrigley Field is one of my happy places… it always has been… it always will be. But, maybe we should have waited until Friday afternoon to go??? Go Cubs!!!
