June 30, 2015: Saad Day

Well that was a surprise.  If anybody was going to be re-signed… If anybody was going to NOT be traded or dumped…  It was Brandon. Think again.

No, not Brandon Bollig…he was dumped a while ago. And no not Brian Bickell, who for some reason is still on this roster. #20!  Brandon Saad has been traded to the Columbus Blue Jackets.

I know we got a nice return for him, based on what I’ve read. A 2nd/3rd line center…big guy.  A young player named dano; I know somebody getting a new Hawks jersey. Morin…it auto corrected to moron…returns. Whatever. I guess we must trust in Bowman and the Hawks brass, but….

Anybody with two eyes could see how good this kid is…how good he’s going to be. Outside of Toews, Kane, and Keith, I’m not sure there’s another Hawk I’d rather have. People are saying the core is still intact.  That’s not true. Saad had to be considered part of the core.  The guy is an absolute stud. And oh yeah, he played pretty fricking good in the playoffs.

I don’t like it. I don’t like it one bit. Yeah, I felt the same about niemi and byfuglien 5 years ago, and I guess that worked out ok. I’d argue that this is the best player the Hawks had to let go in this regime.  I could see him up in the Toews Kane realm. Maybe that’s a little too much?

3 cups in 6 years. How can you argue with anything the Hawks are doing?  If any team in town you could trust, it’s them. Yet, I’m having a hard time with this  one. On top of that, I thought they traded him interdivison, but forgot they moved to the East. Ok, so at least we only play him 2x per year. I wonder how he feels.

Was it his agent trying to get max dough?  Was that instruction given by Saad? Did he really want to stay here?  Some of these questions I’m not sure we’ll ever find the truth out about.  I do know one truth…that he’d be worth every penny he gets. This I’m sure of.

It’s a Saad day here in Chicago. The salary cap has forced this move.  The salary cap is the ultimate blame here, making it near impossible to have a dynasty, like it was that easy in a non salary cap era. Well, it was easier.

Regardless, we dumped somebody we never would have traded otherwise.  Brandon Saad was supposed to be a Hawk for life. This sucks.

i’m surprised also, and saadened. but, whatever the difference in $$ was, don’t we think that saad should have given up a few bucks to stay with a team where he could return to the stanley cup game, or even win another one of 2?! wouldn’t you? even if it’s a matter of a mil or so, what can you do with 5 mil that you can’t do with 4? if he wanted to stay with a winner, he could have. so, unless the contract $$ was so absurdly far apart, i guess i gotta put this on saad and his agent.

Surprised based on what bowman and saad had said about staying. The guy is a beast and will be missed, but this Hawks train rolls on. Who knows how the negotiations went down. Maybe saad wanted too much $ and the Hawks couldn’t afford to keep him and stay under the cap. Either way, trust in the Hawks brass that they are doing what is best. At least it seems that the Hawks got some good talent in return. The Hawks are not done, but at the end of the day, the core is solid, and all the other pieces will be worked into the Hawks way. Exit saadman!
