About 50 or so days ago, we heard the best Blackhawks news; winning the NHL draft lottery meant one thing. The Blackhawks would be getting the next big thing; the day finally came when this would be official. On June 28, 2023, the Chicago Blackhawks selected Connor Bedard. How you doing?
Just as I was planted in front of the TV for the lottery, I was tuned in for the official announcement. This is big… this COULD be big… There are no sure things, right? Right, but I’m not going to dwell on that reality… not today. No, I’m not going to be THAT way. We just got the next Wayne Gretzky!!! Heck yeah. The Blackhawks are back baby. And while I’m at it, I’m not going to answer the question about when the Blackhawks will return to the playoffs like Kyle Davidson… no sir-ee… The answer is: THIS year. Bedard will hit the ice running, and lead us back to the postseason immediately. The Blackhawks will make the playoffs every year Bedard is playing, period. And Stanley Cups? There will be multiple. It’s only been 8 years since our last one, but so what; the Blackhawks will be winning more Cups THIS decade. Book it!
Let us all enjoy this day. The Blackhawks did have another 1st round pick btw; Oliver Moore is certainly not coming with the same fanfare as Bedard, but he sounds promising as well. And oh yeah, the Hawks have a lot more picks, and oh yeah, they just acquired some other guys from Boston a couple days ago. We have a fresh, new, young GM… and coach that has some promise… and millions of fans who will be trying to pack the UC for this next ride to see Stanley… ticket prices are going up btw. Shit, I promised my son a Bedard jersey if we won the draft lottery; it’s time for me to pay up! I will gladly, gladly scoop that up; Christmas present coming!
It’s time to dream big again. Seeing the Hawks fall from glory, lose the Cup core, suffer through some rough years… it’s been tough; the suffering is over! Yeah, yeah, I know… it’s only been 8 years; it’s not like it’s been 108 years or anything like that. I don’t care. We were spoiled there for a minute, and guess what… I liked it!!! Why can’t our teams compete for it all every year? Impossible? Improbable for sure. But that window we always talk about for our teams… you know, the one that the Cubs purposely slammed shut, the one that is closing/has closed on the Sox, the one that has been shut for the Bulls since Rose’s injury, the one that is opening again for the Bears, is opening again for the Blackhawks. And I’m here for all open windows; I love open windows.
Welcome to the window opener. Connie… Bedy… CB… Bedard the Blackhawk… whatever the guys decide to call you, is fine with me. One day soon, we will call you Stanley Cup champion. The Blackhawks are back!!!
