June 28, 2018: LA Confidential Part 4

posted in: Cubs | 1

The string of night games was broken with this 4th meeting between the Cubs and Dodgers in LA.  A day game in LA…

There were a lot of day games on this Thursday.  My buddy in LA asked me when I moved out there about the day games at Wrigley.  He would see them on WGN.  He would ask me, does anybody work in Chicago?  Well, other day games across the majors aren’t so packed.  Watching the highlights last night, I saw many stadiums half empty, including the other one in my city.

As I was getting on the train to come home, I saw a bunch of guys coming from the Sox game; it was still going on though.   I thought, why on this beautiful day would a bunch of guys leave early from a baseball game.  Of course there are many reasons, like bad weather or your kids.  Maybe they had another prior engagement that forced them to leave early.  Who knows.  I was going to make a comment to them…

But that empty park syndrome during day games, more specifically weekday games, effects most teams.  The Cubs aren’t one of them.  The Dodgers are.  Where the hell was everybody at?

With all that blue in the stands this week in LA, it was hard to tell how well.  But let me tell you, there were a ton of Cubs fans there.   I went to many games in LA and Cubs fans are well represented.   We may not make more noise than the improved sound system at Dodger Stadium, with all those speakers, but we’re there.  Maybe that’s why they put those speakers in…

Back to the game, and yes I had to work, I had to rely on text messages from my wife.  She told me Dodgers were winning 2-1, then 3-1.  I told her only text me if it’s good news.  My phone started to blow up.  Then her and my son called me, as he started to give me a play by play.  Cubs kicked their ass and won the season series.

Although the title says LA Confidential Part 4, it was really Part 7.  Cubs took 4 of those games.  And like I mentioned earlier, it’s very possible that we will meet again in another 7 game series.  They better get some extra speakers for that one.  Go Cubs!

Cubs fans always travel well, plus there are just so many of them relocated acroos the US that road games for the Cubs have plenty of Cubbie blue. This has been the case for as long as I can remember, not just since 2016. The same can be said for Cubs day games. It really is an experience to go to a Cubs game at Wrigley. Honestly, you have to go to both a day and night game…Wrigley is aWesome either way! The Cubs split the 4 game set with lala and will not see them again this year…maybe. No team scares me in the nl. Overconfidence? Maybe, but this Cubs team is built to win a 7 game series, and that is exactly what they will have to do come October! GO CUBS GO!!!
