June 26, 2018: LA Confidential Part 2

posted in: Cubs | 1

So here we were… 2nd game in a row, planted in front of the TV, ready to watch the whole game.  As it started off, I started to get that feeling again.  With my aggravation already peaking, due to the current 5 game losing streak and the fact that I sat up all night the night before to watch the Cubs score 1 damn run in the series opening loss, I didn’t think I could sit through this again.  I love the Cubs, but man can they piss me off.  It’s not healthy.  Thank God they finally won it all; that has improved my mental health dramatically when it comes to the Cubs.  Yet, they can still do it to me… We’re in the golden era dammit, and I want another World Series title.  If I’d sit and watch this game again, and stay up past my bedtime, and they’d fall flat on their faces again… I’d have a headache.

Lester took the bump.  He’s been the stopper.  I don’t remember the exact stats, but he’s been that guy to stop the losing streak.  He’s been that guy to get the win when we needed one.  Where would we be without Lester this year?  The guy is getting better with age.  But the Cubs would be playing in their house of horrors.  I do remember the stat they showed regarding this; I actually took a picture of the screen so I could remember it.  In their last 6 games, regular and postseason, they’re 0-6, scoring 1.3 runs per game, batting .162 (1-24 with RISP), with a starters ERA of 6.11.

I was trying to remember the details of last year’s NLCS… for some reason that’s blocked in my head.  All I can seem to remember is the 2016 NLCS and what happened afterwards.  Oh yeah, what happened to the Dodgers after they beat us in the NLCS last year?  Nada.  Still, these recent struggles vs the Dodgers has my hate bubbling towards them.  I really don’t like any of their players besides Kershaw.  We need to get this win.

And it was 6 in the 6th that did it for us, lead by none other than Javy.  With a solo home run earlier in the game, he hit the first pitch for a grand slam topping the scoring in that inning.  It was an absolute bomb.  That made me very happy… very very happy.  I tried to stay up for the whole game.  I did get through the 8th inning, then shut it down, hoping the Cubs would hold on.  And they did.

Baez also made one hell of a defensive play in this one; we’re used to this.  Dumb ass Puig didn’t pay attention, then finally woke up and rounded the bag before getting doubled off; he also dropped a key ball in RF.  But back to Baez… man, if he would only stop swinging at bad balls this guy would be unbelievable, or Manny Ramirez as Joe calls him.

It feels good to win.  We stopped the bleeding… finally.  Now let’s try to get this series.  A 3rd consecutive night game awaited me.

Lester has been great, not just this year but ever since he came to the Cubs. He is the ace, the stopper, and exactly what the Cubs needed. With Baez leading the charge offensively, the Cubs got a big W. Where would the Cubs be without Baez? I cannot imagine trading him. He is a stud on both sides of the ball. He will be an all star this year, and once all of the Cubs start clicking offensively, watch out! The Cubs are in a great spot right now without playing their best baseball offensively or on the mound. I like what Im seeing and am even more excited with what could be. GO CUBS GO!!!
