June 26, 2015: Channel Surfing

My wife thinks it’s annoying. I enjoy it to the max. Whenever there’s multiple sporting events I’m interested in are on simultaneously, this is what we do.

It doesn’t even have to be sporting events. It could just be a commercial.  The attention deficit kicks in, and I’m flipping. Most of the time, I try to watch a movie on an actual movie channel, so you don’t have that problem. But movie channels cost money. Netflix is cool. You can watch episodes of your favorite shows or movies without interruption. If you’re going to go on a binge, just let it play, and it will jump to the next episode automatically. No remote needed.

On this Friday night, there were 3 relevant sporting events on. The USA women’s soccer team was playing in the World Cup. They won 1-0. I didn’t see one second of it. The Sox lost to the Tigers. I saw bits and pieces of it. I left it on for a while because I couldn’t find the Cubs game. I was trying not to get too pissed.

From Comcast, to ABC, to WGN, to the U, to Fox, to MLB network…nothing. How is this even possible?  Cubs game not on TV. This had to be wrong…and it was. It ended up being on Channel 7; the directv guide was the thing that was wrong.  Whew! Disaster averted. I can stop channel surfing now.

Jake threw a good game. It was a well played game. The type of game that the Cubs have been winning this year. The type of game the Cardinals always seem to win. It went to extras, naturally, and it ended with the same result that 4 of the 6 contests earlier this year did. A cardinal win.

The Cubs have played the Cards well in recent history, even the last three years when they sucked. This year, the Cubs are finally better, and it gets worse. The Cardinals are still in first place… By a lot, and are beating the cubs, through Friday night, 5 of 7 games.

Although the cubs have came a long way, and are back in the mix, this just shows how long they have to go. Still a different level between these teams until otherwise proven.  It pains me to say that, but it’s true. Yet, I look forward to the challenge. Not only in the regular season, but potentially in the postseason…although that’s getting a little ahead of ourselves.

I’ve said it before and I’ll say it again… We have to go through these birds in all likelihood. To be the best you have to beat the best.  I hate to say it, but that’s what it is. I want to change that. I’d love to knock those cards off their perch, but it hasn’t happened yet.  Stay tuned, and don’t change that channel…
