It feels good to let some hate out. Can’t carry that around; this is part of why I’m doing this. The latest rendition of the Hate Files was a doozy, as I opened up my biggest file in yesterday’s edition. Now, back to reality.
Reality ain’t looking so good for the Cubs and Sox. The song remains the same. Cubs lose, Sox lose. Castro with the only RBI in the Cubs 4-1 loss to Cincy, and the Sox with an extra inning loss thanks to the bullpen allowing a game tying grand slam to Nelson Cruz in the bottom of the 8th. It just doesn’t get any better than this, but wait it does. Let’s step away from our baseball teams and look at the offseasons of our Bulls & Hawks.
We’ve touched on some Bulls stuff, as I lobbied for a Kevin Love trade over Carmelo coming here, and expressed my hope that a certain star does NOT come to our team. Now, it’s back to Carmelo for a second, who has decided that the Bulls are one of the teams he will be visiting after July 1st. The other 2 teams are Houston and Dallas… hmmmm… if that’s the 3 teams in the running, it’s a no brainer Melo. Although I would rather see Kevin Love in a Bulls uni, that doesn’t mean I DON’T want to see Melo in one. Actually, because of his SF position and his offensive abilities, he may be a better fit than Love. My concerns hinged around his ability to play team ball, to not be a black hole, to play some defense, to be coachable, and to NOT mess up this Bulls’ team chemistry. If he comes here, and leaves substantial money on the table, that’s the first sign to me that he’s serious about winning. If he’s serious about winning, then he should be interested in satisfying all of the above concerns. If that’s the case, then Melo is more than welcome here. I had to walk myself through that one. I have love for Melo ever since he won me some money in my NCAA brackets back at Syracuse. Even though since then, he hasn’t done much in the ways of winning, like 0 Finals appearances, and only 1 Conference Finals appearance with Denver, he may be that piece we need to get us that 7th NBA trophy. I still don’t think we NEED him, but it would be nice to have him. Stay tuned.
I like the other player mentioned by the Bulls, Arron Afflalo. He would be a very nice addition, considering his ability to score and his defensive talents. I wanted to get him back when he left Denver. I think he would fit in very nice with this Bulls team, and wouldn’t be a bad consolation prize from the Melo/Love sweepstakes. I expect the Bulls to have a new player come 2014-2015 season, and with the addition of a healthy DRose, I expect big things from this team. With draft day upon us, I am excited to see what unfolds.

To the Hawks for a minute. Congrats to Keith to winning the best D man award, although if it were based on the conference finals performance, I think Doughty would have got it. Still, Keith is among the best, and is definitely NOT somebody we will be shopping. I have heard Sharpie’s name tossed around, as the Hawks look to potentially add a 2nd line C. There are options out there, including, Kesler, Spezza, Stastny, and Neal. Are any of them worth getting rid of this consistent 30 goal scorer that is part of our core; the core that won us 2 Stanley Cups? I know he didn’t play well this postseason, but I still think he’s got enough in him. I keep Sharp. If we can still add one of the above somehow, then fine. With the NHL draft coming up, we shall see some roster movements.
So regardless of the baseball seasons, it’s still an exciting time for Chicago sports… it always is. With both teams having serious title aspirations, the road to a championship starts now. The big moves and small moves are critical. Let’s get it right.
One other thing to do post hate, and that’s show some love. Happy Birthday wishes to my goddaughter who turned 4 on Wednesday. It’s a priceless time having children around this age. Enjoy your birthday gifts, and great party by the way!

So instead of trading Sharp, how about Crawford for Kesler straight up?
JEFFK
I’m not sure if Kesler is the best available one on that list, with all of his injuries, but I’d rather do that than Sharpie. I like Crawford, and would prefer to do neither, but if we want to trade Sharp because of his postseason performance this year, we might as well talk Seabrook too. Crawford had spectacular moments, and won some games for us, but he had his issues too. Maybe trade the young Teuvo??? Who knows what he’ll be long term, but that doesn’t help us much from a cap perspective.
