BP?  Batting practice. The gas station.  Where we going with this?  Ok, I give up.  BP stands for Bobby Portis.

Who?  If you didn’t know or haven’t found out yet, the NBA draft took place Thursday night.  Personally, I had no clue. I just happened to catch some of it on the Score driving home. I caught more of it later in the evening; the part that I really cared about. The 22nd pick of the draft.

This of course was the Bulls pick. And yes, Bobby Portis was the guy they selected.

No, not Bobby Hansen, who was on the court for the Bulls in the Game 6 comeback clinching victory in the 1992 NBA finals.  And no, not Clinton Portis, ex-bronco and redskin RB who put up some pretty impressive numbers for a minute.  I wonder if they’re related?  And no, he’s not bobby Bonilla, bobby Boucher, bo porter, Darrel porter, or terry porter.  Bobby Portis is the name and 6’11” 245 is his game.

The Fred Hoiberg era begins. That sounds funny too. What’s really funny is this kid’s comment about his motivation. He envisions the guy across the court having just slapped his mama.  Whatever works I guess, as long as that guy across the court isn’t Delonte West. He was the SEC player of the year; a double double machine. He plays mad. I ain’t mad at him.

The question is how much will he play. Thibs didn’t really play his rookies much.  Freddy boy has to play these guys more. I’m sure that was something that irritated the front office, especially last year with mcbuckets.  Let’s see how it plays out.

But that’s a ways away. Long way from being in basketball mode. NHL draft is next, and then the start of football season. Right now, it’s baseball season, and it could be a good one. So the next time we talk, I hope BP stands for what we made the Cardinals or Tigers pitching look like.  And Mr. Bobby Portis, not Bo Pellini, Bo Jackson, or Fred Jackson, will have to wait his turn.
