June 24, 2022: The New Guy

I love to talk about Vegas, but… time to get back to normal, whatever that is. As we stepped back into reality on Thursday, the NBA draft was getting ready to roll. For some reason, at some point, I didn’t think the Bulls had a first round pick; I thought that was gone like the wind related to the Vooch trade. But no… with the 18th pick of the 2022 NBA Draft, the Chicago Bulls select… the new guy!

Dalen Terry is the new guy’s name of course. Guy out of Arizona. I remember watching him, both in the regular season and in the tourney. I don’t watch too much college basketball, but we do watch a little bit of UCLA’s games and of course March Madness. He definitely was an energy guy. He wasn’t their best player, but definitely contributed, at least in the few games I saw him in. A quick look at his bio tells me that he made the Pac 12 all defensive team this past year. I like that. Defense is definitely underrated, a lost art if you may, in today’s NBA. To grab a guy that knows what he’s doing on that side of the ball, is a smart move IMO.

Talking to some other folks, they weren’t as excited about this pick; they wanted the Bulls to pick up a big man. But hey, we have Vooch, right? Well, I think we all know what Vooch is right about now. He is a very good player, for sure. He has multiple different ways to score on the offensive side of things; I wish he would do more of one than the others, but still. He is dare I say, a great player? On defense though… not really the physical presence we’re looking for from our man in the middle; it is what it is. He’s made some nice plays on D, every once in a while… he’ll grab his share of rebounds, because he’s the center, and that’s his job, but… Defense, Rebounding… the Bulls need help there, I don’t think there’s any disputing that. Although this draft pick did not fill the “big man” void, it should lead to an improvement on the defensive side of the ball, which is a start.

I do expect the Bulls to make a move to bring in another big guy to help in this department. If we still trust in AKME, which I do… I mean, they’ve showed us that they’re not afraid to make moves; they’re actively trying to improve this team, which is all you can really ask for, right? Even if all the moves don’t pan out exactly like they expected, they are making moves, while at the same time, trying to build something with continuity. I have a lot of faith in AKME, and because of that, I do expect another big man to be on the roster soon. I like Rudy Gobert; I think he’d be a great addition, and if that took moving Vooch too, well… There are other options out there too… One way or another, we’ll get a guy.

First thing’s first though… well, after the draft, is signing Zach. Sounds like that’s all but done; that should become official in the next week. With the first 2 steps of the offseason complete, it may be the third step that gives us what we’re all waiting for. I like the pick personally. A guy that can play multiple positions, who brings high energy, and can play some D… who doesn’t need a guy like that? Building a team of guys like that… yeah, into my veins baby. Go Bulls!
