June 23, 2018: Washed Away

posted in: Cubs | 1

Maybe you’ve been wondering why I haven’t been talking about my son’s baseball team.  Maybe you haven’t.  Well, the reason is that there has been nothing to talk about.  After a historical rainy May, the June follow up has been very wet in its own right.  There’s been a total of 1 game played thus far.  There’s been a total of 3 games washed away.  This sucks.

Probably more so for the park director.   Having to reschedule all these games, not just in our league, but across the board.  Looks like we’ll have limited practice time this year with all the makeup games we’ll be playing.

But we’re still practicing, at least me and my son are.  Trying to keep rust from building up on that bat and glove, I’ve tried to keep some form of baseball going.  Whether it’s catch, running bases with his cousins, or wiffle ball, baseball is still present.  And of course watching the Cubs play.  He gets to stay up a little later in the summer to catch those couple extra innings.

But this rain…damn.  The fields have been taking a beating.  Next week we have two games scheduled; there’s also some more rain scheduled.  If it could rain on Monday and Tuesday, that would be cool.  Then by Friday, the fields will be ready to go.  Only if it was that easy.

I’ve been mixing it up lately, taking the train to work. It’s been good for the most part.  It’s a 25 minute walk to the train station, which when you add to and from, has been great exercise.  It’s been good for my mental health too.  Not driving in rush hour everyday to and from work has been refreshing.  The money is about a wash with gas saved vs train fare, but it does save wear and tear on the car.  Anyways, back to the other day.

It was raining.  I grabbed an umbrella ready to make my trek.  Well, the rain picked up, and didn’t stop in those 25 minutes.  I might as well not had an umbrella.  I was soaked.   Plus the puddles were crazy; my shoes and socks were drenched; had to ring them out when I got to work.  Now I’ve enjoyed walking in the rain before, but this was ridiculous.  Maybe if I wasn’t going to work…

Hoping for Mother Nature to cooperate these next couple months.  One game in on June 23rd is crazy. Let’s stack up those doubleheaders and get rolling.  The first game was great; ready to see them get better.  Go Cubs!

Rainouts suck. The kids are so excited to play and Mother Nature takes over. Where are those baseball domes for kids? Hahaha. Wouldnt that be crazy? Yeah, it’s tough to play baseball in the rain. Tough to walk in the rain, too, especially when it is pouring. I usually dont mind, though. I dont do it a lot and usually will not have an umbrella. It sucks to get soaked, but it’s only water so you will dry. Hope the rains stop so the fields can dry, too. Baseball needs to be played! GO CUBS GO!!!
