The Derrick Rose era has come to an end. Where do we go from here?
Clearly, it is Jimmy Butler’s team… well his and Hoiberg’s. With Rose now gone, and Noah & Gasol soon to follow, it’s all Jimmy. Who else we got? Taj, McDermott, and Miro will be big parts, as will the new additions from New York. Jerian Grant is a nice player. The nephew of Horace, he was a really good player at Notre Dame. He hasn’t done that well so far in the league, but who really does in New York in recent times? I like Calderon. He will immediately step in and be the starting point guard. He puts up big assist numbers and will hit a trey or two. Finally, the addition of Robin Lopez will give us another big man. Yes, as some say, it’s the wrong Lopez, but he will see some serious tick down low.
Finally, we look to the NBA draft. And with the 13th pick of the 2016 NBA draft, the Bulls select Denzel Valentine from Michigan State. I see no reason why he can’t immediately contribute. I’ve read some stuff about him, including some injury concerns… I think, that’s all we need. We should traded away one, and get another? I certainly hope not. GarPax talk about getting more athletic, but then get this guy, who is considered more of a grinder than athletic. The jury is out now. The Bulls really need this pick to come through.
Back to Rose for a second… I watched a little bit of the news conference in New York. They’re going to eat him up. If you think we were bad to our hometown hero, watch what the media will do to him out there… especially someone who isn’t the best with public speaking, etc. It’s funny that he said, he has no idea why he was traded… wow. I guess that’s not surprising, considering he probably doesn’t realize why people got mad with his PJ graduation comment and his focus on a new max deal after this year at the start of last year! He doesn’t really seem to be in touch with reality.

The reason we traded you is because you can’t stay on the court. Playing in 66 games last year will probably be the most games he ever plays in a season; that’s about 80% if my math is correct. And that’s with no further injuries. He’ll be on the game off every couple weeks plan. Any little tweak will force him to the bench; that gets tired quick, especially for us, who had to deal with 3 years without him.
Another reason we traded you is because you’re not the same player any more. If you look at all the stats & rankings that they use nowadays, Rose was at the bottom of the barrel for point guards. He will never be the same player again. But, I’d be OK if he proves me wrong.
I’d be OK because he is from Chicago, and just like most other Chicago players, I support them in the pros. I don’t root for them over my team, but I do wish them well… after all, they come from the same place I do. Yea, I didn’t grow up in Englewood, but I did grow up in the city, and still live there. I wish the best for anybody coming out of my city. I thought the whole thing about playing for your hometown team was awesome, but it didn’t work out. So, now, just like another other kid from Chicago, I will root for Derrick Rose. I will root for #25, his old high school number at Simeon, and hope he does well. The difference will be, I won’t be living and dying on his performance (more dying with him lately), since he’s not on the Bulls any longer.
Are the Bulls really better off without him? Right now I’ll say no, but more importantly than anything, it is a new beginning. We definitely needed that. I would have liked to start this new beginning with new upper management too, but I guess we’ll just have to ride with them again. Rose ran out of chances, when will they? But just like with any player I don’t like, or any GM that sucks, I will continue to support MY team… because the Bulls were my team way before DRose and GarPax, and they will be MY team way after them. Go Bulls!

The Bulls are Buckets team and have been since last year. I hope he improves with his leadership this year now that rose is gone, who obviously caused some locker room issues in addition to injuries, missing games, and talking without a brain. The pieces the Bulls got in return are just that, pieces to a puzzle that has yet to be solved. They will play and provide some value, but are they the right pieces? TBD. Same can be said with their first round pick…valentine. I liked the pick regardless of his injuries and think he can provide immediate results for the Bulls. Time for fredberg, buckets, and whoever else stays to grow up and bounce back next year. Another year of missed playoffs in the east will not be acceptable!
