Let’s talk about the Blackhawks draft.
If I don’t know much about the basketball talent coming out in the NBA draft, what makes you think I know anything about these NHL kids? It’s cool that some famous kids are coming through, like Tkachuk, but other than that, no clue.
So I read; yeah go figure. I actually printed out some articles to read about the Hawks draft. Yes, printed them out. I still have need for some paper. I still like to read a book, not an electronic version. I’m sounding older and older…
And that means these kids getting drafted are getting younger and younger. High level, I like what the Hawks did. What has been the biggest area of struggle? The defense. So spending the top 2 picks, 8 overall and 27 overall, on defensemen is a good thing. I wouldn’t know these guys from any guy walking down the street, but the position they play is what counts.
Were they the best available? Maybe not overall at that point, but I’m sure you could make the argument. Top defensive guys at the time, sure.

Adam Boqvist was taken at 8. Everything sounds ok about him, except the fact he’s only 17 years old and the fact that he’s already had head injuries. So that window I’m hoping to sneak one more Cup in, will not be helped by Adam. See you in a few years? That’s how most of these hockey picks go right? Nobody steps right in like in the NBA or NFL. It’s more like baseball. The other thing is the whole concussion stuff. That’s not something to mess around with. Your career could be over. We’re already seeing guys like Carcillo and Boynton raise up the head injury issue. Like the NFL, the NHL has some stuff to address; they have to keep the game safer. Will Adam experience reoccurrences of this injury? Could the head injuries sustained lead to more problems? Crow missed most of last year with an “upper body injury”. Like I said, it’s nothing to mess around with.
Next up was Nicolas Beaudin. Again, adding another young defensemen is smart in my humble opinion. We already have some young forwards. Now add to the back end and hopefully we’ll have something soon.
We already have something. With the aging core and young guns, some stability at goalie, and the addition of a big name, the Hawks can strike back quickly. It can also get worse before it gets better; I’d hate to imagine that. They loaded up on some more picks in the hopes of developing a pipeline that can improve the team on the ice for years to come, either by their performance on the ice or their value in crucial trades. Drafting is key; did the Hawks get it right?
Well, I already predicted a 2021 NBA title with the Bulls. With the Hawks it’s either going to be next year or in about 5 years; just my gut. Is there one more Cup in this team? Go Hawks!

No idea about either of these guys, but adding defensemen cannot hurt. Having seabs and keith to learn from can accelerate the process if given the chance. Those 2 have been there, done that in a Hawks uni. I sure hope the Hawks have another Cup run in them with this core. Would hate to see things deteriorate with this group. Time will catch up to all these guys, but hopefully not too soon, too quick. Adding youth is never bad, especially on the back end. GO HAWKS!!!
