Well, I did stick to what I told my wife. As soon as I got up from my nap, I’d head down to the casino. Little did I know it would be 7am… Good Morning Vegas!!!
Vegas in the morning is something else. You have those people who haven’t slept crossing paths with those people just waking up; I’ve been on both sides of that. As I walked through the Link, there were a few guys at the bar, belting out the song that was playing on the radio… ah yes, they’ve been up all night, half drunk… love it. I was on my way to the Venetian to get some breakfast for the fam. As I was walking through Harrah’s, I found my first table.
Now I don’t know exactly how many times I’ve been to Vegas; if I try to think about it, this is how I figure. Once a year every year since my 21st birthday, which comes out to 25 times. Plus, 3 extra times per year during the time we lived in LA, which is 12 more… so 37 times? I don’t know… maybe a little more, maybe a little less, but ballpark yeah. And I swear… although each of those trips has their differences, a lot of differences over the years, there is one common theme: I always lose on the first night. It’s in my head… like my brother said, maybe it’s that negative mentality that is contributing to this continuing fact. Well, not this time Papa Vegas… No sir-eee, I slept in the first night; I didn’t gamble! So there! I didn’t lose on my first night. Waking up at 7am the next morning, I felt refreshed. I was ready to go, gone be that first night jinx; the world is mine!
The first table I sat down on was Ultimate Texas Hold’em. There was one dude sitting; his stack looked pretty decent, so I thought, hey, maybe this is a good spot. Let’s just cut right to it: I didn’t win 1 F-ing hand. $100 right down the shitter. So much for that first night jinx… then I started thinking: maybe it’s my first gambling session that is my downfall? As I walked through Casino Royale, I threw a $20 in a Wheel of Fortune machine; nope… not one fricking spin. $120 down the tubes… OK, let me stop. Place I was going to in Venetian was closed, so I had to head back all the way to Planet Hollywood to get to that Coffee Bean… I didn’t feed Papa any more that morning…
So what is it? Why do I always go in an immediate hole? It would be nice to get up for once… play with house money. I have had to win one Vegas trip right away, right? Well, I can’t remember that, although I can’t remember every single detail of every single Vegas trip; sue me. All of my trips kind of run together… a memory from this trip, from that trip… I started thinking about that, as I walked back to Planet Hollywood. I started making some phone calls…
