You have to say it like the famous Ice Cube verse: “Today was a good day”. And I didn’t even have to use my AK…
So yeah, catch up time again. This time it was due to some good personal stuff going on, like enjoying the heck out of Father’s Day 2016. Happy belated Father’s Day to all you dads out there. To my father, father in law, brother, 2 brother in laws, and godfather specifically… hope you all enjoyed the day. For me, Father’s Day weekend started on Friday.
You know it’s going to be a good weekend when the Cubs win on that Friday afternoon in Wrigley. I already talked about how I should have been there, so we’ll skip that, but the win was still great. Driving home, listening to some post game is always something I like to do. On a Friday, I do like to blast that radio driving home in traffic, but I do like hearing every single bit about a Cubs victory. On this Friday, it was Willson Contreras… yeah, I have to get used to the 2 L’s too… standing on deck waiting to make his first MLB at bat. Montero lined into a double play and we would have to wait… it was worth the wait by the way. But… he did take the field in the 9th and he did get his first taste of the Cubs faithful. Nice job fans!
Isn’t it awesome that the Cubs keep bringing guys up, and they keep doing well? Before we fast forward to Sunday night, and a magical moment, I liked the other first at bat this past weekend. Hector Rondon, in the middle of a 2 inning save, came to the plate for the first time… ever. For the first time ever, in the minors or majors, he held a bat in the batter’s box during a game. It was great. He tried to bunt… unsuccessfully. He instantly squared away, and I like the part when he was sitting there waiting, and the pitcher stepped off… and Rondon just kept the bunting pose. That was a funny moment.

But the other first AB of the weekend belonged to the previously mentioned catcher. He stepped to the plate as a pinch hitter, got into the box after getting another loud ovation, only to have the pitching coach come out. As they conversed, I told my wife that they way this season is going, how about a HR in his first at bat… I didn’t call the first pitch though. First pitch… BAM! Straight away center field… and as McCutcheon backed up, and backed up, I stood… and yelled for that ball to leave the yard. And it did, and I yelled some more, and my son started crying. “You scared me Dad”… yeah, wait until October…haha.
It was a nice end to the weekend… it was a nice end to Father’s Day. No, not making my boy cry, but spending quality time with the family on Sunday. An awesome breakfast followed by fun in the sun followed by church followed by the Cubs sweep. The Cubs own those Pirates by the way… 8-1 this year after last year’s elimination game. Yeah, sorry Buccos…
So let’s keep this thing rolling… ending this now, and because the Cubs are doing so well, and I’m so happy, I’m not even going to mention the outcome of the NBA Finals… in this blog…. back in a flash.
