I don’t like teasers. I kind of put it in the same category as parlays; they’re sucker bets. I’m sure, just like anything, you can find value, pick your spots, and be successful. But living off betting teasers & parlays? Good luck. I don’t like being teased either; who does? Just like the start of the season, the Cubs have been playing good ball; I was almost convinced the first time… almost. The Cubs shortly plummeted down the standings, like I thought they would. Now, they’re back on a hot run. After getting swept by the Angels in LA, the Cubs have won 7 of 8 games, and 5 in a row before losing the series finale to the Orioles at Wrigley. Are we believing THIS time, or are the Cubs simply teasing us again?
The teams they have been beating have not been chumps. The Giants and Orioles are over 500; the Pirates just below. That’s promising… I still don’t think the Cubs have enough on their roster to win over the long term, even in the shitty NL Central. There’s time to improve the roster though… If you took a survey on what the Cubs should do at the deadline, it would be BUY. Make some moves, add some talent, take a run at the division, get into the playoffs, and anything can happen. If you took a survey on what we thought the CUBS would do at the deadline, it would be SELL. They put the minimum effort over the offseason to improve the roster; what makes you think they’d try now. It’s not the right time guys… tongue firmly planted in cheek. I mean, we’ll probably take advantage of Stroman’s hot start and trade high, vs resign him to bolster up our pitching staff for the next few years. This has been a frustrating few years to be a Cubs fan, and believe you me, we have had some frustrating times…
After their hot streak, the Cubs still sit below 500 at 33-38; this information alone will point the Cubs into the sell direction, on top of the time isn’t right, etc, line of thinking. The “don’t call it a rebuild” is still in its early stages; why should the landscape in our division impact the bigger picture? Well, it’s because EVERY YEAR IS SACRED, that’s why! And when you have the resources that the Cubs have at their disposal, we should be putting our best foot forward, spend every cent we have, to put the best product on the field in an effort to get into the postseason every, single, year. It’s not rocket science guys. Why do these guys think they’re smarter than everybody else?
I’m interested how the 3 games in Pittsburgh will go to start the week before the Cubs hit the road (over the pond) and head to London to play the Cards for a pair. Although the Cubs have a winning record at home, they’re 13-21 on the road. The Cardinals suck, so I imagine the Cubs split in London worst case, but the Pirates, the team directly in front of the Cubs in the standings, in Pittsburgh… Win that series and maybe, just maybe, I’ll believe this isn’t a tease; maybe I’ll get hyped up. Then, we’ll only have to convince the front office…. Go Cubs!
