So word is that Zach Lavine will sign back with the Bulls; I guess I’d like to see this news become official before anything, but… this wouldn’t be that big of a surprise, right? I’ve read that no team can pay Zach as much money as the Bulls can, so regardless of how you think Zach feels about the Bulls, the fact that he cannot make more money on any other team is a pretty big selling point.
Zach has always sounded like he’s wanted to stay, other than the few statements after the season about exploring free agency. Maybe that was just lip service, a negotiating tactic, but if that doesn’t matter anyways, then…??? I’m confused. Was it just standard text book comments that his agent encouraged him to say? Was there any truth in Zach being interested to play elsewhere? I guess it still could happen…
We do want Zach back, right? I think so. I’m a little concerned about his performance in the postseason this year, but if he wasn’t 100%, if his injury was that serious, then we have to give him another shot to prove himself in that environment. It would be seriously disappointing if Zach didn’t up his game come playoff time when healthy. That whole 1-2 punch of DD and Zach, that lead the Bulls through some great times during the season, was never really on display in the playoff matchup against the Bucks. Zach’s output for the series was 18, 20, 15, & 24 in the 4 games he played. It’s not all about scoring, but for Zach, that is his bread and butter, and to not reach his regular season points per game average of 24.4 in any single game, yeah… but… he was hurt, so… certainly hope when this becomes official, he gets a chance to redeem himself.
DD is 5 years older than Zach, so regardless if DD remains the #1 next year, Zach will eventually have to take that spot, unless the Bulls acquire someone else. The question “Is Zach a #1?” remains… We thought we would get an answer this past year, but then DeRozan went off. We had wondered this for a while; I’ve flip flopped on it myself a few times. We may not have an answer this next year either. Zach will be getting paid #1 money; is he worth it? A lot of other guys not worth that price are getting paid, so.. as I’ve said before, it’s the price to play poker…
Pay the man his money I say. I’d love to have all my questions about Zach answered, but that’s not going to happen; the whole cart before the horse maybe? But, if the Bulls want to return to the postseason, Zach needs to be back. If not Zach, then who? That’s a lot of points to replace. Hoping Zach can continue to well round his game along the way, on top of the whole becoming #1 and playoff star wishes. Let’s make this official and find out; Go Bulls
