June 13, 2023: CBT

The Vegas Golden Knights captured their first Stanley Cup on Tuesday night, defeating the Florida Panthers in 5 games. Vegas was going nuts! Good for them I say. Normally, I’m not a fan of a new franchise winning it all; they haven’t had nearly enough time to suffer… they haven’t paid their dues. However, in this particular case, Las Vegas was not allowed to have a professional sports franchise for the first 112 years or so, so… now that sports betting is not frowned upon as much, the gates have opened, and the Golden Knights and Raiders have entered; are the Athletics next?

Speaking about the A’s, did you see the whole “reverse the boycott” night last night in Oakland? It was fricking awesome. You know, the A’s decided not to field a major league team this year, plus are trying to move the team to Vegas; fans have boycotted. Besides being on a historically bad win loss pace, nobody is showing up to the games. Yet, on this night, almost 30K packed the Coliseum; it was like a playoff game. They won, their 7th in a row btw, beating the MLB best Rays; damn right I bet on that. Good for them, doing this, chanting “sell the team” in the 5th inning… unfortunately, it probably won’t matter. Can you imagine the Cubs moving? There would be chaos. If the Sox were moving, well… maybe they should…. haha

Anyways, now that the NHL season is over, it’s CBT! Don’t you get sick of all the acronyms… CBS, CBD, CST, PTSD, LOL, LMAO, STFU… haha. Well, I got a new one. CBT= Connor Bedard Time. That’s right. 2 weeks from now, the Blackhawks will be drafting the next coming with the #1 overall pick. It’s stuff like this that will turn a franchise around; I hope it does the same for us. It’s not like it’s been that long… only 8 years since we last held Lord Stanley, and yes, it wasn’t just that one, but it had been the 3rd in 6 years; so what? Don’t you remember the rules? I don’t want any team winning too much, unless it’s one of MY teams! A decade on, a decade off, and now… the Hawks are back, right?

Not sure if the savior will hit the ice running… or should it be hit the ice skating? Will Mr. Bedard come in and immediately make an impact, helping take this NHL cellar dweller back into the postseason? Hey, sky’s the limit man. Just like things are looking up for the next sport around the corner with our Bears, the Blackhawks should follow suit, and turn in a much, much better year in 2023-2024. And that should just be the start of things… How many years until we can see the Stanley Cup travel around Chicago again?

I’m ready… always ready for one of the Chicago teams to win it all. I think it’s time. The Cubs were actually the last to do it, 7 years ago now. I wonder which city has the biggest drought in professional sports championships… maybe something I can dig into and report back… maybe not. I really only care about my teams, thought you knew, and now that the 2022-2023 NHL season is officially over, that means, CBT dammit! Let’s do this! Go Hawks!!!
