I’d love to think that we have dispatched of the Cardinals permanently after sweeping them at Wrigley this weekend, but we know they’ll hang around… well, usually they do. They’re not very good right now though… Their pitching is an absolute train wreck… unrepairable this season I think. Their hitting isn’t all that great either… They kind of suck. That feels good to say. It doesn’t get much better than sweeping the Cardinals, let me tell you. But… we must move on…
At 38-27, the Cubs are tied for first place in the division. The Pirates put up absolutely no fight this weekend against the Brewers… thanks for that guys. The Brewers swept them, and just recently swept the Diamondbacks, and not too long ago swept the Nationals, making it a clean sweep of the last place teams in each division. It may be a favorable schedule right now for the Brewers, but we all have to play the same teams… we all have to beat the crappy teams on our schedule to have a successful year. I just didn’t realize the Cardinals would be so crappy… The Cubs will face the Mets in a 4 game series in New York starting on Monday. It shouldn’t be too bad, other than facing deGrom on Wednesday. The Cubs just need to keep winning, just like they have been.

The Cubs are already one of the best home teams in the majors, then you add a packed house? It’s hard to estimate the impact of no fans in the stands… I’m sure each team was impacted a bit differently, but… I think the Cubs were one of the teams impacted the most by the lack of fans in the stands last year. First off, Wrigley is fricking packed pretty much every game. There will be some teams who will increase to 100% capacity and not notice the difference. There was a HUGE difference at Wrigley this weekend. I didn’t end up getting tickets, but I did end up around Wrigley Field in the bottom of the 8th of Sunday’s game; it, was, buzzing… big time. Can’t wait to get back to the cathedral. The Cubs were actually hurt by no attendance on the road last season too. Cubs fans are nationwide, plus they travel. We can debate which visiting team has the most fans at their games, but the Cubs are definitely up there. That will be the next place we see them play, on the road, in Cincinnati; can’t wait for that.
It’s pretty fun right now; winning always is. I still firmly believe they need to add starting pitching; this rotation won’t last forever. I think giving a few extensions out right now couldn’t hurt. Or… maybe this is it. Maybe there will be no additions to the roster; maybe this is the core from 2016’s last dance? To see how they are playing right now, to see Wrigley rocking again, to look around the league and feel like an addition or two could put the Cubs in a position to compete with anyone… why wouldn’t you do that? Why wouldn’t you want this to continue? This year, and going forward. The golden era of Cubs baseball doesn’t have to come to an end; maybe this team DOES have another World Series in them? Or maybe it’s just that feeling of winning, sweeping the Cardinals, being in first place in June, that has me going. The mojo is flowing right now; I just want it to keep flowing… and for the Cubs to stay hot, especially when it counts. This is fun. Go Cubs!
