June 13, 2016: Mad Monday

posted in: Bears, Blackhawks, Bulls, Cubs, White Sox | 1

How was that for the start of your week?  Cubs and Sox in action.  Bears, Bulls, Blackhawks news.  And the NBA Finals…  It was a Mad Monday… let’s go.

The Cubs game was a good one, even though the result was a bad one.  I actually watched the first 6 innings in their entirety.  Mad Max was on point.  8 of the first 9 Cubs to come to the plate, he whiffed.  He had some nasty stuff going on.  But… this is the 2016 Cubs, and I just knew they would strike eventually.  As Addison Russell was battling with Max in the bottom of the 6th, with a perfect game in progress, I thought this would be a great time for Russell to break out of his slump.  He did, as he lined a home run into the left field bleachers, breaking up the perfect game, the no hitter, and the shutout, and more importantly, tying the game.  Now this game is ours!

One second there chief… what I didn’t see coming is the bounce back by the Nationals with the runs in the bottom of the inning.  Normally Joe would have pulled Kyle by then, but he didn’t… giving him the chance to get the win, and he didn’t.  Cubs lose.  Stop the presses.

Then there was James Shields’ second start… it went about as well as the first one.  He got cranked around the field.  He did finally throw a couple scoreless innings, which was a step in the right direction, but the hole had already been dug.  7-0 at one point.  But… the Sox came back!  Wow.  I saw it was 9-7 headed into the 9th, and had a feeling.. and the Sox won it in 12.  Talk about a much needed win.

Couple things about it.  Anderson batted lead off.  Ventura got kicked out of the game.  Renteria did the postgame.  The feeling is like now or never for the Sox.  Honestly, with a week full of division games, this could be Ventura’s last week.  So, he’s managing accordingly.  Starting Anderson at leadoff less than a week after he was called up.  Going off, getting kicked out of the game… showing that emotion.  Then, sending Renteria out there for the postgame… kind of saying, is this what you want?  With the Sox coming back and winning a game where they looked dead, could save a season that was dying, and could save a manager’s job.  Not sure if that’s good or bad with Sox fans in Ventura’s case, but the Sox have definitely not gave up on him… and that’s definitely good.

Then there was some sad news from the Bears:  Bryan Robinson died.  He was a pretty good Bear.  His most memorable moment of course was the game after Walter Payton died.  It was against Green Bay, in Green Bay, and the Packers were lining up for a game winning chip shot field goal.  Robinson blocked it, and the Bears won.  He said that Walter helped lift him up in the postgame press conference.  Priceless.  Hope you can sit at that table with Sweetness now.

Bulls news is about trading Butler… we’ll discuss more soon.  And the Blackhawks have been pegged right behind the Penguins as 2017 Stanley Cup favorites.  And then there was the NBA Finals…

Now I haven’t been watching a lot, but I’ve been paying attention.  Yesterday, I tuned into the 2nd half.  Other than the fact that no defense was being played, it was a good game; the Cavs pulled out a victory in a must-win situation.  I’m definitely rooting against LBJ winning, but I’m kind of getting sick of the Warriors too.  I guess what I’m saying is that it wouldn’t be the worst thing in the world if Cleveland came back and won the series; there would be positives.  Thinking this is going 7 either way.  Thinking the Warriors will still win it.

So there… Mad Monday in the books.  What is next on the menu?

Scherzer showed why the nats paid him so much money as he shutdown the Cubs. Time to bounce back tonight and get the blue train back on track!
As long as the Blackhawks have the core, being top 5 to win the Cup is a reality. Hope the pieces come together next year so that they can climb the mountain again.
As for the finals, it is making me hate lequeen even more. Yes, he is a beast on the court, but he is also a punk ass B, as draymond called him. Hope he loses again to be 2-5 in the finals…yeah, congrats on getting to 6 straight but not closing the deal…LOSER!
