June 11, 2015: Playing Catch Up

Coming off a relieving Blackhawks win, we sit even in the series 2-2.  Heading down to Tampa for a Saturday Night Showdown, it’s a best of 3 series.  First team to 2 wins.  Will the Mighty Blackhawks prevail?  What else has been going on, and does it really matter?

Well, yes, it does matter, but it’s hard to keep focused on anything but the Hawks right now, as one commenter noted.  They’re consuming the city right now, and getting all of the attention rightfully so.  Yet, there is other action going on… as there always is in the sports crazed city.

Regardless of the season, there is always Bear news.  Of course I love the Bears and football, but it’s a little hard to get zoned in right now with them.  There was the Ray McDonald era that lasted about as long as the Kris Humphries Kim Kardashian marriage.  The Bears said they wanted to give him a second chance… I was OK with that.  Old McDonald battered down a door and went nuts again, and he was released.  Second chance wasted.  Bears acted swiftly by releasing him, which I was OK with too.  They did the right thing.

The other team in the offseason is the Bulls… unfortunately.  And now, we have to watch Lebron vs the Warriors.  I’m really hoping the Warriors get cracking, and win this series.  I haven’t watched more than 1 minute of this series, but I do care about the outcome.  I won’t turn it on until the Cavs are on the brink of elimination… I may not watch any of the series at this rate.

Baseball season is of course in full swing.  How we doing there?  Cubs tied for second place 6.5 games back.  I was reading about David Price and the possibility of him playing for the Cubs next year.  From everything I’m reading, it seems like a pretty good chance.  While some may think the Cubs don’t have a chance this year, the standings tell otherwise.  And yes, it is only June, but regardless, with future additions on the way, and as the young guys continue to get better, it’s only upwards from here folks.

And hey, the Sox just completed a sweep and got out of the basement.  So don’t cash your chips in just yet Sox fans.  Long way to go, and with the names on paper of this team, there is no reason why they cannot contend for a playoff spot.  That Astros team they just swept is no slouch; I know, I have some of their young talent.  McCullers pitched OK in game 1 of the series, but he was going against Sale, who was better.  He’s looking more like himself now.  The series also saw the debut of Correa, who did a little bit of everything, but not enough to get any wins.  His future is bright, while the Sox are looking up.

Back to the team of the moment, and that’s the Hawks.  6 games, 7 games… when will this series end?  Will the Hawks prevail?  Saturday, Monday, and Wednesday are when those games are scheduled, so clear out your schedule, and I’ll try to do the same.  It’s the last 2-3 hockey games of the year.  Let’s enjoy it, and more importantly let’s win.  Go Hawks!
