June 10, 2024: Disappointment

Welp, there goes that. What appeared to be 2 good matchups in the NBA and NHL final round, have turned out to be 2 duds so far. Boston up 2-0; Florida up 2-0. Yet, all they’ve really done is hold serve, right? They say a series hasn’t begun until someone has won on the road. Both favorites up 2-0 will get their chances next.

The Mavs have been a bust. It’s been Luka and not much else; thanks Kyrie. I lost in Game 1 and pushed in Game 2; I still have my bet over 5.5 games for the series. That’s going to require Dallas to win a couple; come on guys. Will anybody else be able to step up? Maybe it’s not just the Mavericks’ sucking… I guess we do have to give credit to the Celtics, after all, they have been the best team in the NBA all year long. They have the most talent; they’re the best on paper. Now, after their cake walk through the East, they’re showing it on the biggest stage. Tip of the cap to Boston thus far. Even with Tatum not playing his best, the Celtics keep rolling. And guess what? They’re typically better on the road in the playoffs than at home, yet the Mavericks are favored in Game 3. It does make sense though. It’s back against the wall time. Sure, the series will go on if the Mavs lose again, but down 3-0… ovah! Down 2-1 with another home game coming… and maybe we’ll get that series I was hoping for.

On the ice, it’s been all Panthers, more specifically, all Bobrovsky. He’s only allowed 1 goal through 2 games vs the high powered Edmonton attack. MVP here we come. Although I did have a bet on the Western Conference coming into this series, I did think Florida had the better chance; I should have hedged it. Well, that ship has sailed, and like the NBA Finals, at this point, all I can hope for is that this becomes a series. Heading home down 2-0, the Oilers are also favored in Game 3; same concept really. Do they deserve to be favored? Not sure about that, but the urgency is definitely on the side of the team down 2 games, so… will the home crowd help the Oilers win a game? Where is that fan? Will she be flashing us again? Have to do what you have to do to turn this thing around…

Betting aside for a minute, it would be a disappointment to see both of these series end so quickly. Seeing both favorites look good at home certainly guides the mind to a sweep scenario. Maybe we need to hold that judgment until after Game 3. Well, if the underdogs both lose, it’s over. One of them has to pull it out right? Both of them? Let’s make these a series. Go Mavs and Oilers!
