June 10, 2016: Doing the Opposite

posted in: Cubs, White Sox | 1

Friday began the series between the best and worst teams in major league baseball.  The Cubs squared off against the Braves.  Friday also marked the start of another Sox Royals series.  With the Royals reeling, maybe the Sox could get going again.

Well, when it came to the Cubs Braves game on Friday night, it went anything as expected.  The Cubs were just supposed to take the field and claim their 3 W’s in Atlanta this weekend.  Bud Norris had some other plans, as he shut down the Cubs, and gave Atlanta the series opener.

I think I’m at a point with the Cubs this year, that I won’t freak out about every loss… even if it is against the worst team in the league.  Stuff happens you know?  The old saying, that’s why you play the games… yeah, anything could happen in any one of the 162 games this year.  They all won’t be W’s… we know that, right?  I got another saying for you…. don’t worry be happy.  Cubs are the best team in baseball.  Let’s enjoy it.

The Sox meanwhile sent Sale to the hill on Friday night vs KC.  Sale hasn’t been as sharp lately, and wasn’t on Friday either.  The nice thing was that the bats woke up, and the Sox outscored the Royals… AND held on to the lead late, to get that series opener.  This game may be remembered for the debut of Tim Anderson.

Hello Mr. Anderson…  OK, Matrix reference…  The Sox did something good… and that’s bring up some of their young talent.  It’s better than continuing to garbage pick if you will.  I know trying to catch lighting in a bottle with some of these veteran guys works sometimes, but it hasn’t for the Sox.  Latos, done.  Rollins, done.  Going back, LaRoche, done.  Now they sign Justin Morneau?  Stop trying to grab these old guys and bring up some of the talent in your system.  Yes, it’s not as deep or as highly rated as the Cubs, but you got some guys.  It was good to see the Sox bring up one of them.  I think that’s the route they should start to take… When is Fullmer ready?  Is there some time & service thing going on there?  Looking for magic out of Gonzalez, who hasn’t been that bad, or trading for another old guy, Big Game James, is OK, but…  why not bring up the young guy?  It’s coming soon I think.

Both teams were busy doing the opposite on Friday.  The Cubs losing to a last place team, and the Sox calling up a prospect.  Don’t sweat it Cubs fans, and be excited Sox fans.  I can tell you first hand, that it is exciting to see the young guys come up and do well.  That’s how you’ll get somewhere… that’s how you generate excitement.  There will have to be some patient days, both with the young guys and the team as these young guys settle in, but it could all turn out to be very worth it.

You expect the Cubs to sWeep the bravos, but reallisticly, winning series are what matters. A loss to open but jake and lester going for the final two…like the Cubs chances for another series win!
As for the sox, infusing some of their young talent with the guys they have may provide a much needed spark for this reeling club. Playing the al central rival royals, the sox need to start turning the ship around.
