June 10, 2015: Whew

That was close… The Blackhawks barely escaped with victory on Wednesday night at the UC.  It wasn’t looking pretty for much of the game, but at the end of the day, a win is a win.  Thank you very much.

Personally, I’ve just been too damn busy.  I mean, I missed the entire 1st period, caught part of the 2nd period on the radio, and watched only the 3rd period in its entirety.  I’m running a day behind on my blogs too; this is the latest I’ve ever posted for the PREVIOUS day… this is getting crazy!  So… I had to rely on some text messaging to get me through until I was able to listen & watch myself.  Let’s review.

New Goalie for Tampa was the first message I got from my wife.  Actually, I was HAPPY to see Bishop, or as he’s known around these parts, Bitchop start last game.  I thought he looked shaky… after the 2 quick goals to win Game 1, we scored against him in Game 2; their offense bailed him out… and the Russian goalie that was put in to replace him.  I was a little worried about that guy, so when Bishop came out for Game 3, I was happy.  It didn’t work out… after the 1st period where I thought Bishop looked like he was going to pass out, we had him on the ropes, but… we let up, and they prevailed.  So getting this message got me a little concerned…

Shoot the F’N Puck was the next one I got in the group text message between my bro and my dad.  This is a common frustration… as we think why don’t they just fire it on net… instead of skating around, passing it around… It seems like when you put the puck on net, good things happen.  I guess they weren’t doing that…

Next up was the first period summary… Scoreless 1st… 5 penalties, 3 us and 2 them… Didn’t look very good.  So I was happy I didn’t miss anything selfishly.  I didn’t like the fact that the Hawks didn’t come out looking good.  I would have bet they came out flying around… that wasn’t the case.

The last 2 text messages as I was leaving that I got simultaneously was Score Toews and Captain!  I would have bet on this guy too.  He’s always a good bet, especially as the moment gets bigger.  So I finally missed a goal, but didn’t care, as the Hawks were up 1, and I was headed to the car.

As I turned on the radio, and as I drove out of the parking lot… getting a not so good signal, I heard…. from behind the Hawks net…. the puck is behind Crawford… 1-1.  Just great.  First minute I turn on the game, the Hawks give up the lead.  Unbelievable.  Maybe I should just turn it off.  Nope, I listened, and I was getting worried.

At the 2nd intermission, Troy Murray kept talking about how the Hawks looked tired.  Maybe that previous series vs the Ducks finally is catching up to them.  They were making too many mental mistakes, and didn’t seem like they could shift to that next gear.  As I sat down in front of the TV, I saw an amazing stat.  Tampa had led 90 minutes in this series to the Hawks 11.  Wow…  3rd period begins.

I thought this game had OT written all over it…  early and late in the 3rd.  With Saad’s awesome move in front of the net to give the Hawks the lead, I checked the clock.  It said 13 minutes, and I thought, are the Hawks really going to hold this lead longer than they have the entire series.  Here we go… and boy did the Lightning pour it on, especially at the end.  I thought 2 of them went in… the one Stamkos shot that deflected off Seabrook’s stick, and the one shot in the last seconds.  I just knew we were going to OT, but nope…. Hawks held on.  Whew!
