July 9, 2024: NFC East

Staying out East, we turn to the NFC East, where the Eagles & Cowboys sit, ready to wage another war for the division title. The Eagles were THIS close to a Super Bowl a couple years back and started out like gangbusters last year, before seriously fading. Speaking about fading… the Cowboys fading in the postseason is like clockwork. Getting all those front running fans all excited and then WHAM… Will THEY be able to take the next step? And then there’s the Giants, who 2 years ago, looked pretty promising, before last year’s train wreck; will the real G-Men please stand up? And the Redskins… I mean, Commanders… well with a new QB at the helm, and a Snyder-less ownership group, can they make some noise? The east is where the competition is.

Hurts, Brown, Smith, and now Saquon?!?! What an offense! Yes, the unpopular Kelce brother will not be snapping the ball this year, and that may impact the “tush-push” (why are they trying to get Hurts hurt?), but man… hard to look past this Eagles O. It’s on the shoulders of Hurts to make it happen; he can’t complain about lack of weapons. Defensively is where they struggled; the addition of familiar face Vic Fangio at the coordinator position most certainly counts for something. Tough to pick against Philly, but if I was to…

I don’t like the Cowboys. They are the most over hyped team every single year, and although they pull out a great regular season every so often (like last year), they choke in the playoffs. In Dak’s last year of his contract, does his extension ride on a playoff victory? It would be surprising if they let him walk, but… supposedly they’re going to give Trey Lance a hard look… oh boy. He doesn’t have as many weapons as Hurts; how desperate did they have to be to bring Zeke back? Good Lord. Not sure how good they’ll be defensively, although they do get Diggs back… not a bad secondary.

Daniel Jones. The Giants want to give him another chance; they drafted a WR to help, but let Saquon go… It’s really all on Jones’ shoulder; that doesn’t make me feel warm and fuzzy. Their defense is halfway decent, but man… lot of pressure on Daniel Jones, who by the way, can’t stay healthy either. This feels like a bust or boom year, and it may be determined pretty quickly. Hey, there’s always Tommy Devito!

In DC, we may have a dark horse brewing, but again, we’re putting a lot of those hopes on a QB’s shoulders, and this time, it’ll be one taking his first snap in the NFL this season. With the Giants and Commanders, I feel like things could get really interesting, or really boring… quickly. We may be looking at the most competitive division in the NFL, or it may just be all about the Boys and Eagles again; what say you?
