It was perfect for my first trip. Don’t think I ever stood there again after that first time. Since then, there’s been a handful of hotels that we’ve stood at, but none more than the Flamingo; that is definitely our spot. Perfect location, great atmosphere, cool poker room, still a bit of Old Vegas feel, the pool… yeah, there are many good things. But lately, the rooms have been worse and worse; the prices were right, but the rooms needed to be rehabbed big time… After a couple years away, we tried to come back. Finally, the rehab is done. I don’t know if it’s 100% complete, but our room, the floor we stood on, looked great. Finally, the return of the Flamingo…
All rooms are higher nowadays. I never paid that much for a hotel room in Vegas in my life. Long gone are the offers of free rooms. There are still $39 rooms… they’re the worst rooms, plus you still need to pay the resort fee on top of the nightly rate; that’s where they get you. My father in law picked us up at the airport, and we headed off the strip for some breakfast. Eggs and I was the spot… delicious. After that, we went to the Flamingo. We were still 6 hours before official check in time; the kiosk told me to come back later… since I didn’t select the option to pay for early check in. I figured I’d go to the front desk. Thankfully, they did have a room, but yeah, I still had to pay for early check in; that was a no brainer though. It was great to get in our room after a long morning, and rest before hitting the pool. We didn’t have the strip view, but I like the view of the pool, the Ferris wheel, looking east towards those mountains; we were on the 28th floor, which is the highest floor in the hotel. Like I mentioned above, the room was great.
After a brief rest, we headed to the pool. We live in the family pool nowadays; we could still hear the music from the 21 and older pool. It’s a little, a lot more tame than the other pool, but still very nice; it’s perfect for my son. We headed back to the room to get ready for our first show of the trip; jabberwockies was on the slate for tonight. It was a very entertaining show. After getting back to the room, and my son knocked out, that’s usually my time to hit the floor… but it had been a long day. I knocked out too; we all did. We’d have to wait to gamble until day 2, which started very early.
