After taking another one on the chin Friday vs the Reds, the Cubs bounced back, with two more come from behind wins to win the series. I was especially happy because I had a little money on the series. Yeah, it’s only ten bucks, but it’s always nice to win.
My friend is a Reds fan. We’d talked about betting before, like most wins during the season, or season series results. Thankfully for him, he hasn’t made those bets recently. He actually called the sweep in Cincy. I told him we could have bet on it; he would have cashed on that. We finally agreed to a small wager; I thought I had lost those dollars.
What was it, 7-2 in the 7th on Saturday? Baez home run, followed by the big 8th inning pulled one out of the fire. Then Sunday, after 2 in the 7th to take the lead, I thought I was in the clear. Morrow blew the save, and then the Cubs blew their chance in the bottom of the 9th. They came through in the bottom of the 10th. 3 walks and a Joey Votto error did the Reds in. My friend said they should have swept the Cubs again…
They could have, but bad teams find ways to lose, while it’s the opposite for good teams. I’m glad the Cubs finally zoned in against these guys. They have a good offense. I’ll definitely be rooting for them to take care of the other teams in our division. Speaking of them…
The Cardinals are floundering. Now 6 games behind the Cubs, who are 1.5 games behind the Brewers. See the whole Dexter Fowler thing? Yeah, poor Dex, although he did get paid. Poor Cardinals…those suckers overpaid him to grab him from the Cubs. Hey, I’d take him back if the Cardinals ate his salary. Add him to the outfield rotation.

Meanwhile the Brewers…surprised they’re still on top. That one guy Aguilar…wow. And now they may be in on Machado… Although they probably need another arm in the rotation. If I’m them, I’m going for it. It’ll be interesting to see how the days before the deadline play out.
The All Star selections came out on Sunday as well. Baez deserves it big time; so happy for him. Willson too! Good for him. He leads the majors in innings caught. He also has some decent offensive numbers. And then Lester. Where would we be without him? All the issues with our rotation, he has been the one steady force. I think they got it right with the Cubs representatives.
Now it’s time to head out west. A week of games in Cali will be fun. Returning to San Francisco is cool, especially since it’s not Candlestick, which wasn’t a great place for the Cubs. AT&T park holds some better memories. The big game four comeback in 2016 in the NLDS will never be forgotten. The Giants are playing some good ball too. Should be a good series.
Amd then that’s it. We made it to the all star break. I’ll take a 4-2 record this week. Go Cubs!

Pay dat man his money! HAHAHA…$10 make you holla! Thanks for being the reds cincy…good teams find a way and that is what the Cubs did. It helped that the reds made some bonehead plays, too…bad teams find ways all the time. Agree with the Cubs all-stars. Baez has carried the Cubs this first half…just aWesome! Willson has been great behind the plate, too. The first year with Rossy helped him so much. And Lester has been the Cubs best, just like he has since he signed here…what a move by Theo! Yes, the west coast trip is up next before the all-star break. Where will the Cubs end up? Last year was 5.5 behind. This year will be better than that. Finish strong vs the giants and padres and enjoy the mini vacation! GO CUBS GO!!!
