July 8, 2022: Sweet Child

I thought that was it… Sweet Child of Mine by GNR playing over the speakers in Dodger Stadium at a stupidly high level; do they always turn up the speakers in the stadium that high? I know they need to simulate crowd noise out there, but come on… Yeah, Craig Kimbrel is on the mound to close it out for LA against the Cubs in the first of a four game series on the West Coast.

I should go get my shirt… I scooped up a “Game Over” t-shirt with the pre-delivery outline of Kimbrel on the front, before he got dumped. Speaking about returns on a trade… Madrigal is horrendous, and where’s that pitcher? Meanwhile, the Sox parlayed Kimbrel into Pollack, who from one Sox fan’s perspective, has been doing really well. But yeah, a Cubs shirt for $9.99??? I can’t pass that up. Plus they had my size, 2XL; all my t-shirts from this day forward will be that size… no more waffling between XL and 2XL, even if I do knock off that 10 pounds I’d like to.

Shit, Craig ain’t messing around, making Ortega and Hoerner look bad up there. He’s throwing fricking darts. I remember he sucked for us at the start, but then was absolutely lights out. Then there was the whole 8th vs 9th inning debacle on the South Side before Craig landed on his feet with the best team in the National League.

Honestly, I can’t even believe I’m still up watching this game. I have been keeping busy, knocking out these 500-600 words of wisdom as I get current with my blog. I’m there! And there means… 2,999 days in a row pumping out these puppies; excuse me if I pat myself on the back for that, but show me somebody else who has done this… seriously. AND I have a day job, and a family… that’s called commitment, or maybe dedication my frentz…

Yeah, I don’t really like tooting my own horn, although if I could reach my… forget it. Maybe Suzuki hasn’t seen pitches this fast in Japan; that was one ugly swing. But there goes Craig… making it interesting. Suzuki got a hit! We’re not done yet… I swear, if Wisdom goes deep here…

The next time I sit down at my laptop to knock out a blog will be my 3000th day in a row that I have posted a blurb, mostly about Chicago sports. Again, show me somebody else who has done this!!! Crickets MFers, crickets… OK, take it easy champ. That’s what we’ll hear from Dodger fans if the Cubs can pull this out, although it certainly won’t be quiet in Dodger Stadium; Cubs fans always represent, even when times are tough. We talked about heading out to LA to see them play this weekend, but it wasn’t in the cards; maybe next year… hey, that sounds familiar.

Kimbrel up to 27 pitches now in the top of the 9th; guess we won’t see him tomorrow night? 28 now… Wisdom is battling up there. 29 absolutely spiked by Craig; full boat. 30, and still fighting. Walked him on 31! Bravo Patrick; great fricking AB. Go ahead Roberts, take him out you chump… holy crap, he did! The Dodgers with that mickey mouse COVID World Series ring… garbage man, with all those dollars invested in that team. Who they bringing in now? Eric Gagne?

I remember some of our closers… Lee Smith was my first, although I know Sutter was pretty damn good before him. Mitch Williams was always an adventure, as was Carlos Marmol. Joe Borowski… nice! Of course, there’s Aroldis Chapman… man, he could have went down as one of the biggest dogs of all time if the Cubs hadn’t bounced back in that Game 7, although Joe really did use the hell out of him. Alex Vesia? OK… Nice move by Ross bringing in the rook here; big moment Nelson. Show us you belong baby. Oh man… seeing Mark Prior brings back memories; one of my favorite Cubs pitchers of all time. That 2003 season… absolute money. Hold on though… Willson could have been brought in to pinch hit?!?! WTF Rossy?!?!

Another full count… action pitch… Nelson goes down looking, ugh! I mean, I tell my 10 year old son don’t go down looking, and with the game on the line, you major league player can’t get your bat off your shoulders?!?! OK, well, down goes me now… head hitting that pillow in 3, 2….
