Yeah ok, so I’m really behind. I need to play some catch up with the blogs. Whenever this happens, it’s not because I have nothing to talk about related to Chicago sports; it’s because life happens. Some vacation days meant spending quality time with the family; that is more important than anything. It’s been a fun few days, with a couple more to go; let’s try to sneak one in.
First place I want to go is a place I wish I never had to go again. This topic gives me a headache, more specifically this person. I want his time with our Bears to fade away from my memory as quickly as possible. I’m just so happy that he’s not here any more, although we will be hearing more from him.
Dan Hampton brought his name up in some noteworthy comments. I love Dan; how could you not? Anything 85 Bears is and will be golden forever. He’s still very much around football. I love his honest assessment of recent happenings with the Bears. He’s tough and he keeps it real with this softer, gentler version of the NFL. He made a comment that got us talking.
Da Bears would have won 5 Super Bowls with Jay Cutler. My first reaction was “yeah, anybody could have won with that defense”. Yet we know, that anybody did not win. Jim McMahon won, and I guess him and Hampton don’t like each other still. I would argue that if he stayed healthy, the 85 Bears would have won another Super Bowl. If he stayed healthy, they could have won multiple Super Bowls.
That defense was obviously all time; they were really good for a long time. There were other factors besides the McMahon injuries, like Payton getting older (although Neal Anderson was no slouch) and some defensive pieces getting away, like Wilber Marshall. We also see how fame got to this team. It was the best one year team in the history of football. It’s a shame they couldn’t have won more.

After McMahon went down, the Bears QB carousel started. I’m not going to list all the names like the networks do; we know it’s been ugly. So my initial reaction that anybody could have won with that team is obviously wrong. Yet, the failure at the QB position since then includes Jay Cutler. Why would we have won with him?
Is it still that “he’s a very talented QB with a big arm”? Haven’t we learned our lesson. He was a loser point blank. Going 500 with the Bears throughout his career, the turnovers, the lack of leadership…I’m not going to go through this again. Check his hate file.
Just because he owns a lot of Bears records doesn’t mean he was worth a shit. He’s just a glorified example of our futility at the most important position in the game.
So Dan, I love you buddy, but keep his name out of your mouth. Unfortunately, he wouldn’t have helped us win multiple Super Bowls back when anybody should have been able to. The 85 Bears will forever remain our treasure. The defense was the best. The fact that the Bears could never find a replacement at the QB position killed us then and still does now. Jay is the just the latest, greatest example. I don’t want to think about him any more than all those other schmucks, especially not in reference to the 85 Bears. Those two things do not go together, and should never be used in the same sentence again. Thank you.

The 85 Bears are the greatest nfl team ever…domination! Danimal was a big reason on the defensive side of the ball. His dislike for the punky qb must have clouded his judgment for a minute while he made that comment. Not sure how a guy who never has won anything would get the 80s Bears 5 super bowls. The guy is a undisputed loser in the nfl. With the a canon for an arm, he lacks everywhere else. The Bears D in the 80s would have ripped him apart in practice. Come on danimal. Make sense when you talk. The Bears qb search is never ending. Why cant we get lucky like the pats, pitt, or our hated cheese rivals? A franchise qb who will last 15 years and bring the Bears a few Super Bowls. Is he on the roster now? I doubt it but he will get his shot. As for danimal, give him a shot to numb his mouth…cutler is a loser and has always been one, which is why he is a broadcaster now and not still on the field.
BEAR DOWN!!!
