I just had to write this title… cracking myself up. But hey, let’s enjoy it right? After beating the Brewers on Wednesday afternoon, the Cubs have now won 4 consecutive series; yeah, that’s no typo. After an embarrassing series against the Pirates dropping 3 out of 4, the Cubs have taken 2 out of 3 from the Cardinals, Reds, Red Sox, and now Brewers. Who the hell are these guys?
They’re still not going anywhere, ok? Look, even me, the most positive guy in the world, knows this. They’re teasing us, but I like it. I like to see the Cubs win; it helps the quality of my day. Going down to St. Louis, and taking the series from the overrated Cardinals… that made my week. The Reds suck, so we should have won that series at Wrigley. We were in the house for one of those games. The Red Sox are good; it was definitely a shocker that we won that series. And then the Brewers? We were at home in Wrigley North, but still… bouncing back after losing the opening game in the set to take the series; that is impressive. How have they done it? By scoring more runs than the other team, duh!
After losing back to back extra inning games to the Red Sox and Brewers, it felt like the Cubs do very bad in extra innings; I had to take a look. Yep, 3-8 in extra inning games thus far. I don’t know why I mentioned that when I’m talking about a GOOD streak for the Cubs, but just kind of pisses me off, especially the one to the Brewers. Nothing against Caratini, who I thought the Cubs could have actually got something for vs him just being a throw in with the Darvish trade, but man… He was 0-4 with 4 Ks before he walked us off in the bottom of the 10th with a 3 run dinger; son of a… But back to positive stuff, after the 10 game losing streak, the Cubs have won 5 out of 6 series, which includes beating another good team, the Braves, before the debacle in Pittsburgh, that preceded the 4 straight series wins. Winning series is where you have to start. Sure, you focus on every game, but the goal of every series you begin, should be to win THAT series. Sure, sweeps are fun, but if you can win series… you will be happy with your record at the end of the year.
Speaking of the records, the Cubs are still 14 games under 500 with a win loss comparison looking like 34-48, just past the halfway point of the year. We’re 12 games behind the Brewers, and 9.5 games out of the Wild Card… it ain’t happening. Still preparing for another brutal trade deadline, although nothing, and I repeat, NOTHING will be as bad as last year… maybe ever. But yeah, Cubs win, x4, series… and their reward? Heading out west for 4 games in LA against the 52-29 Dodgers. I’ll settle for a split. Go Cubs!!!
