July 5, 2024: Season Preview

posted in: Bears | 0

Not only does the 4th of July symbolize the middle of summer, which begins the downhill slide to the start of the school year… it also marks the countdown to the start of the NFL season; maybe you’ve already been counting down? Some may count down starting the day after the Super Bowl, or maybe after the NFL draft. However you countdown, it’s becoming more real by the day; we all await the return of the king.

In this spirit, I will begin my season preview blogs of the 2024-2025 NFL season; I’ve been doing some homework. Yes, there is always fantasy football to think about, and of course betting season, but this year, I also have the Circa Survivor 10M contest to think about. I took a season preview magazine to the DR with me, and ended up reading it cover to cover by the time we landed back in Chicago; good stuff. I have another one on deck, that I will begin to go through shortly. It’s this research that I hope will have a positive impact in all facets of the football season. It won’t help the Bears have a good season, but I’d settle for my fantasy team, my bets, and my millions.

As I begin to look at a strategy for picking one winner per week, not repeating the same team twice, I need to think about the 2 special weeks. Besides the 18 week NFL regular season, there are the 2 special weeks, which consist of Thanksgiving and the day after & Christmas and the day after. So, let’s take a peek at those games. The first special week gives us Chicago at Detroit, Giants at Dallas, Dolphins at Packers, and Vegas at KC; the second special week gives us KC at Pittsburgh, Ravens at Texans, and Seahawks at Bears. You see any common themes there? Well, yes, yes I do. Both KC and Da Bears play in both the special weeks; can you imagine our millions of dollars coming down to picking the Bears over the Seahawks on the day after Christmas? We’d be lucky to be in it that long, and if we were… that may end up being the best play; it’s definitely the best home team to pick… at this point, before the season has even begun. Or how about the Packers on Thanksgiving? Imagine riding our hopes on those bastards? Haha… this should be interesting, again, if we get that far. Either way though, we have to plan like we will, saving as many of those teams as possible.

That’s just the first cut at the strategy; of course there is the whole Week 1 thing. I think that has to be one of the hardest weeks all year to pick. We’re picking this strictly on paper, and of course, any nuggets we can gather from preseason, but still… we don’t know these teams yet; we think we do, but… Anyways, we’re just getting started here. I think what I’m going to do is go division by division; yeah, that sounds good. Let’s begin.
