July 5, 2023: Excitement

If you’re into excitement on the baseball field, the Cubs Brewers games have been like an all-you-can-eat buffet. The first plate wasn’t that great, seeing the Cubs blow a 6-0 lead. The second plate was full to the brim with another blown Cubs lead, coupled with an extra inning win, with 2 Ian Happ putouts at home plate and a David Ross postgame press conference rant. The third plate on Wednesday evening, was like a miracle plate, with the Cubs scoring 3 times in the 9th inning against one of the best closers in baseball, pulling out a 4-3 win from the depths of despair. What will the fourth and final plate this week hold?

I can’t lie; I haven’t been watching the Cubs that closely this year. I’ve been to a few games at Wrigley, where the Cubs have rewarded me with 0 wins and barely any runs. I’ve tuned on a few times to watch them on Marquee only to not find them; I thought Marquee was going to show ALL the games? Isn’t that what we’re paying for? There are nights when the fam is watching TV and I don’t even bother bringing it up, just watching whatever we’re watching like Family Feud or the Food Network. I’m still pissed about the whole blow up of the World Series team; yeah I know… get over it already. I’m pissed about the effort put into building a team since then, which has been minimal, at a time where the NL Central is very winnable, minus the red-hot Reds lately, who by the way, are only going to get better. Yet, I still monitor the box & final scores, and standings very closely. On Wednesday night, I even tuned into that 9th inning… that was nice timing.

Mike Tauchman, from Palatine, IL, where we’ll be headed this weekend for a swim meet, has been getting a lot of playing time. From what I can tell, a lot of folks aren’t that thrilled with it. He’s batting 250 w/a couple dingers; looks like he’s made 3 errors in the field. He was batting leadoff again in this one, and came up with 2 outs and 2 runners on base; a hit would tie the game, and that my friends, is exactly what he got. After fouling off 3 straight pitches, Tauchman doubled down the left field line on the 8th pitch of the AB; I love those type of ABs. Is it just me, or would a better LF than Yelich have had that ball? I mean, lay out… the game was on the line; whether it falls, like it did, or get past you, the result would be the same. Tie game! Next up was Nico, one of the two guys on this roster that I absolutely love on the offensive side of the ball; Dansby is the other, who left earlier with an injury. Nico hit a slowly hit ground ball to third base, but he busted his ass out of the box. The throw was rushed, offline, and in the dirt, and was not scooped up by the first baseman. As it rolled away, Tauchman, who never completely stopped, accelerated down the 3rd base line, and scored the go ahead run; yeah! And, and… we didn’t blow it in the bottom of the 9th. Nice W boys!

I was so glad I tuned in. Seeing a win like that was really fun. Let’s keep it rolling with that 4th plate; heap on the dessert Marcus! Go Cubs!!!
