What is it now? 25, 26 comeback victories this year for the Cubs thus far. So over 50% of the Cubs wins have been the comeback variety; that seems like a big number. What does it mean?
Well for starters, it means we’re falling behind in a lot of games; that’s not good. That’s playing with fire. You never want to dig yourself a hole in a game. Down 1-2 runs ok, but anything more than that and you’re pressing your luck, especially with some of the bullpens out there. Is it more on the pitching or the hitting?
I’ll say hitting. We can’t expect our pitchers to throw shutouts; they will give up some runs. That should be ok. It’s the offense that needs to kick into gear earlier and not wait until we’re down to zone in. It kind of reminds me of the Blackhawks.
Maybe it’s part of the curse of being so talented. Having the feeling that you can turn it on at will. That’s a dangerous game. Of course nobody will admit that, but I think that comes into play subconsciously.
Now it’s good to have confidence. Comeback ability is important; it shows you never give up. You keep at it even if the first few innings you get crap. You keep running up those pitch counts, getting into the bullpens, doing damage. This is valuable not only in a single game scenario, but over a series. Wear down the other team’s pitching. Keep pressing until the dam breaks. The dam broke against the Dodgers, Twins, and Tigers. At 6 in a row, the Cubs are rolling. Most of these wins…yep, the comeback variety.

The other thing to keep in mind with these comeback kids is exactly that; they’re still kids. Here’s a team that has been to 3 straight NLCS and won 1 World Series title to break the longest curse in American sports, and they’re still kids! They are the 4th youngest team in the majors on offense. More to come, only going to get better, sure. But as these other teams rebuild and start a youth movement, you know what… the Cubs are already built…and still younger than all but 3 teams. Good luck to all the rebuilding franchises; not everybody will turn out like the Cubs did.
But we want more. Definitely want another World Series title. With this team, one will simply not be enough. Imagine saying this before 2016….haha, I would have given my left nut for just one. But now we want more, and so what. We deserve a dynasty; we certainly have the makings of one.
Nothing is guaranteed though. All the above is true, yet winning it all takes everything to go right. It takes skill, luck, and health. We need blowout wins, one run wins, and comeback wins. We need to get hot at the right time. Coming off the 4 game losing streak, now on a 6 game winning streak; the streaky stuff is scary too. Losing streak in October and we’re done; I feel like I’ve said his before.
I’m going to ride each of those waves, up then down then back up again. This is baseball; this is Cubs baseball. More ups then downs, consistent playoff appearances…just what Theo promised. Now back to our regularly scheduled programming; time to catch those pesky Brewers already. Go Cubs!

The Cubs have a ton of comeback Ws. It seems like they cannot get out of the 1st inning in a lot of games without being behind already. I wonder how many games the Cubs have given up a 1st inning run or runs. Falling behind is never a good thing. Never quitting is always a good thing. Can the Cubs meet at a happy medium? I sure hope so. Falling behind in the playoffs will be hell. Winning late would be heaven. I guess at the end of the day, whatever the reason is for falling behind and coming back, just get the W Cubs…and lots of them. Another World Series title? Yes, please! The more times the Cubs put themselves in position, the better the chances! GO CUBS GO!!!
