July 5, 2015: Sunday Surfing

Doesn’t that sound good?  I always wanted to learn how to surf.  When I moved out to California, the opportunity was right there.  I didn’t end up doing it.  The closest I got was body boarding in Malibu. That was pretty cool. The ocean is one of the things I miss…

On this Sunday, that type of surfing isn’t possible. Lake Michigan isn’t exactly hang ten territory. So, I concentrate on the surfing that I know best. Remote control please.

Cubs Marlins rubber game was the first stop. What a perfect weekend for baseball. The Sox were even home this weekend vs the Orioles; they were going for the sweep.

The Cubs pitching continued to shine through on this beautiful afternoon. This time it was Kyle Hendricks. After a 6 RBI outburst from Kid Bryant on Saturday, including a grand salami, the bats were silent again; thankfully 2 runs was all that was needed for the Cubs to take the series. A 4 game set against the Cards lays ahead; it’s about time to beat these guys.

They did win the series, but Rodon and company fell short of the sweep.  I claimed him off waivers hoping he’d have a nice game, so I was keeping an eye on this one too. I was glad that most of the runs scored were after he was taken out. The Sox continue to try and climb out of the gutter. They’ll be heading uptown next weekend…always a fun series.

Finally, as I browsed ESPN, I saw that the World Cup final was on Sunday night.  I thought that would be a nice way to end Independence Day weekend.  Ok, let’s give the boy an early bath and I can tune in for the 2nd half.  Not sure if that’ll be necessary now.

My wife reports USA up 3-0 and it’s barely 620. Wow!  Then she said they just scored again…a long one. 4-0!  I know it’s women’s soccer, but rewinding that and watching those goals scored definitely stirred some emotion.

It’s halftime now and I trust they’ll hold on. I’ll tune back in a few to make sure. It’s always great when the USA wins at anything, and this is no different. I’m glad my Sunday surfing ended here. Great way to end the weekend.
