July 4, 2022: The Countdown

6, 5, 4, 3, 2, 1… Happy… 4th of July?!?! I think I have the wrong holiday. Nah, this isn’t what the countdown is about. We’re going to be counting down to a bit of a milestone for me and my blog; reminding myself of that Biggie song “Me and My Bitch”… haha. I think I’m just going to ramble on down the stretch here to my 3,000 consecutive day of posting blogs. That’s kind of crazy if you think about it.

April 24, 2014… that’s when the streak began; I remember it well. The day after I had just celebrated my 20th anniversary at work, and nobody gave a shit. Well, guess what? I’m still at that same job. Yes, a lot has changed since that day more than 8 years ago. I finally got that position I had wanted for a while. For all the ups and downs, and all the negative stuff about my job, for the most part, I’m good. I love what I do; I love the people I work with. They are an extension of my family; I don’t know if everybody up there thinks about it like that, but I do. My son has went from the terrible twos to double digits. Me and my wife’s relationship has aged like a fine wine… sometimes it’s like Cisco, but other times, it’s the real deal… talking about ups and downs… It’s all good though. Almost 7,500 days later, and I’m still going strong… with my wife that is.

It’s not easy though, especially with all the shit going on in this world. Most days I keep it moving, but sometimes, the shit kind of weighs on you. Take for example the events that took place on this Independence Day in one of the most wealthiest suburbs of Chicago, Highland Park, IL. We were just in the neighborhood the day before; heck, if we were planning on going to a parade on that day, this would have been one of the ones we considered. Isn’t that why people move to the suburbs? To get away from all the city BS? Welp, like the Beatnuts say, there’s “No Escapin’ This”… I contemplated writing a whole blog about this, but kind of just over it all… I know, sucks. This kind of stuff is becoming too common place. Some of these events will hit closer than others; hopefully you avoid stuff hitting home… only then will one really understand. But yeah, some stuff may effect some more than others, depending on the details, the timing, etc… But, life goes on. And in this country, where money and guns are prioritized over life, well… thoughts and prayers are the best most of us can do, unfortunately…

OK, see, I didn’t want to get too deep. I wanted to keep it light. I wanted to kick off this week, a celebration of sorts for me. If all of the events in today’s world teach us anything, it’s to celebrate what we can; enjoy this life, every minute we have it, because just like that… it can all change. So yeah, it’s a celebration bitches. Let’s countdown to numero 3,000…
